Skulk Vs. Ha W. Hmg

It CAN be done!
I was amazed when I pulled this off.. three times.. yesterday. I had allways figured that Skulk vs. unwounded HA was a lost cause, but with the right upgrades its possible.. the key is in not fighting them as if they were normal marines. Location is very important. Try to find a room with lots of obstacles in it, not a corridor. If the HA is in a corridor its not too hard to draw them into a room of this kind. HA makes them kinda cocky.

For a trick like this I'd reccomend carapace, celerity, and cloaking. Just in case. While with a normal marine you'd try to kill them as fast as possible, because they can move pretty fast when they want to, the trick to taking down a HA is in wearing him down slowly. Pop out, nibble at the back of his armour, run through a figure-of-eight pattern around the scenery and bite him again as he turns to see where the previous one came from. If he starts firing run up a wall, on the ceiling, but keep moving.

Perfection of this technique is great.. one skulk can take an oncoming force of HA's one by one, saving the hive a world of hurt. HA's seem to have a psycological effect on marines.. the "I'm invincible" feeling that sends them running off on their own. Make that their fatal error

    Bah.

Acid Rockets appears to do incredible damage to Marines, even if they are in Heavy Armor.

As for this tactic, I would say that a lot of finess is required?

I know spydey, it can be done! One thing that lots of people think is hard is taking out a GL marine, HA'd or not, but it is way too easy. Really, if they fire at you when you get close, they kill themselves, and all you have to do is if you hear the first shot run TOWARDS him, not away, and you'll kill him. Anything is easy with the right tactics

No more finesse than is usually required for succesfuly skulk play.. you just need to know how to move quickly and randomly around big rooms, when to hide, and it comes with time. A little luck never hurts either.

I'm sure paraciting him first is a good idea. Don't want your own ambush to go wrong.

Yesterday I killed a HA marine with a GL just by jumping at him and biting until he's dead. This only works if they're not smart enought to bring out a welder/pistol/knife. Then I ran outside the hive just in time to hear the sound of an hmg reloading.

two dead HA marines to one skulk

Rather than celerity I would use silence...Unless you're sitting and waiting for the HA to come you really do not want to give him the upperhand hearing ur little nails hitting the floor on your way to pwn him!

    Silence / Cloaking / Carapace

Rather than running around on ceilings you may just wanna find a corner or behind a box or something and cloak quickly. Your idea of doing it in rooms with alot of obstacles is a good one...use that with cloaking rather than upgrading yourself with it and not using it at all.

If that was implied well power to ya, otherwise you should use everything you upgraded

i dont really understand why anyone owuld not want to make the skulk SuperFast.I mean, skulks are already relatively hard to hit when hopping all over the place, add "leap" into the mix and youve got yourself a freaking ghost. i understand silence is good to sneak up on people, but if you miving fast enough it wont realy matter.

IMO, you play enough pubs i know you know that most of the HMG users simply spam...even if you are moving fast enough they may have sensitivity 99!!!

rofl, but who knows, once again this game can be played on multiple levels so nobody is really wrong!

    nice to see everybody's ideas

This brings up a something I was thinking about.

I know that everyone has a mouse sensitivity that they like to play with, but to me a heavy armoured marine that walks like a turtle shouldn't be able to mouse-look around 180 degrees in an instant.

To me it's more realistic, (and balancing against the lowly Skulk), if with the Heavy Armour comes a slower mouse speed. It only makes sense that with 20lbs of armour on each arm that you couldn't aim from your toes to the ceiling in .005 seconds.

    Just my 2 cents.

Silence while is really great against unarmored marines, i find doesn't do me too well against heavy armor. I much prefer the celerity, especially in a crowded room, that way you can hit him and run and hide before He sees where you came from, let alone went.
BTW I also play marines a great deal, so I'm not sure who these Newbs are that run straight to a HA with HMG. I mean it's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. yet It's fairly common. If there's a corridor between you and them, wait, either for them to go past the corridor, or your hiding spot, or just go around, either way just bite them in the butt. Otherwise, unless the Marine comes with a helmet and short bus pass, yer green mist.

ERR...WRONG!! Giant armor = servos = if you have ability to make such things = servos capable of not hindering physical movement while allowing usage of large plates of armour = you are wrong.

I find a a skulk, I use silence when I'm stalking. There are certain areas in maps that are great, and there are points that I wait at to watch if a marine is coming, when I see him, I run off to the point wehre I am going to ambush him, but I need silence or he may notice I'm around.

It's also great for hit and run tactics. I like to do this. Sure, he can see you while you run away, but once you;re around the corner, he can't hear where you are going to. So I go and hide and wait for him to come by again. Now this is sometimes spoiled if you've really hurt him, and he calls for health. Usually I like to parasite them at first, and then find a good spot to ambush them.

I do use carapace alot though too. It all depends on what kind of a skulk I feel like playing.

    Cheers!

One of the most satisfying things is to kick butt as a Skulk especially in the initial rush. Take out the spawn and command center for a 30 second game it makes crappy marines better.

Wrong yourself, if you want to be technical why doesn't such a big armor have mechanical legs? it must be awfully heavy, and since we're this advanced then heavy armor would move faster than regular wouldn't it? it's a game balance issue, heavies could move and turn slowly in exchange for having a ton more armor. If you don't like it just get a jetpack instead.

I don't beleive making the marines in heavy armor slower would make it fairer at all. The HMG and HA are there to annihilate the skulks because they are later game weapons. Why make it so the lowliest alien could easily kill the best armed and armored marine? It just doesn't make much sense. If you can kill a HMG and HA marine as it is now then you have earned the 50 or so resources you made the marines waste by equiping him. To make it any easier for a no-resource costing class to kill an expensive one would take away the point of upgrading your guys altogether. Just my two cents but I beleive its for the best.

Never ever underestimate Silence. Its so fun to take down that silly git who walks off alone in light armor in a dark corridor. I've stalked a lone marine for up to 3 minutes before killing him, yet did he hear me? No.

Wouldnt the slow torture figure eight in a big room of boxes be negated by motion tracking?
I think it was MonsE that said its a good thing to get ASAP and I would have to agree. Just watch
the blip till it stops, and shoot, keep the skulk moving. Atlthough.. skulks are really fast...
