<div class="IPBDescription">Survey - just take a second to post</div> What card do you use, what OS and which detonator version - as well as your average and lowest FPS.
I'm trying to figure out which set of drivers works best for HL. I thought I had it good with the 40.72s, but looking around I'm suspecting theres a better solution out there.

GFX:Geforce 4 Ti4200 64MB
Detonator version: 6.14.10.5216

Hmm, I think my FPS was better with the newest drivers, gonna test that.
I've got my currents drivers from the Microsoft Update.
<b>GFX</b>:Geforce 4 MX440 64MB <i>(For the win!)</i>
<b>Detonator version</b>: 6.14.10.6176
<b>Average FPS</b>: 55-71 @ 800x600/16 <i>(my max fps is 71 because of my 75 hz rate on my monitor)</i>
GeForce FX 5200

Average FPS is, I think, around 60-ish, at 800x600x32 but I'm pretty sure that's more to fit my refresh rate.
I need to update for HL2. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Or read <a href='http://members.cox.net/noshelter/tutorials.htm#six' target='_blank'>this</a>.

Card: GeForce 2/MX 400 / chipset: 128bit NV11 (A1) / 32 MB SDRMemory

WTH D:
OS: WinXP
GFX: GF3 ti 200 64 MB RAM(on the card)
Omega 'performance drivers' v1.5672a
FPS: 30-40 when in any kind of action(whenever 2 or more players are on screen...). Otherwise 85.[ - I just realized that this is probably VSync cutting my fps in half ]
Geforce4 MX440 32mb
Pentium 4 2.4ghz
1gb RAM
newest nVidia drivers as of early summer '04
FPS: 100 @ 1024x768x32
My memory is a bit fuzzy on the hardware specs, as it is not my computer and is not in my presence right now unfortunately
OS: WinXP SP2
CPU: Intel P4 3.4E GHz (Prescott)
RAM: 1GB Corsair XMS
VID: GeForce 6800 Ultra (didn't pay for it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> i won it lol)
Using the latest drivers off nVidia's site, 61.77
1600 X 1200 @ 60Hz (Dell 2100FP Monitor)
I crank all the settings up to max, antialiasing and antistropic etc. But I keep vsync on because I'd get some stupid tearing lines across the screen randomly. But I'm content with a constant 60fps no matter what. Although, I've been trying to learn bhopping lately, and sometimes I find it easier to turn off vsync and learn it at 100fps.
By the way, I didn't pay $700 for that video card--way to poor for that haha. Won that mofo at a raffle. As you can imagine, I was a very happy child <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Also got the monitor new off eBay for REAL cheap. I want HL2. Now.

You've got the dedicated server version. Re-download and get the correct B5 client download.
Thanks guys, keep the infos coming though. Heres some of the drivers I've tested so far :
Card : GF4 MX 420
CPU : Athlon 2000+
OS : Win98SE
Drivers :
29.42 WHQL Cert - good FPS, very stable
30.82 - Not tested yet
40.72 WHQL Cert - slightly better FPS
56.64 - Seem to drop FPS strongly (Same max FPS around 200 with Dev 1, but dips lower in firefights - to about 20)
61.76 - Unexpected Error on launching HL, each time
45.32 - Best performance so far
CPU: Pentium IV 2.0GHz
RAM : 256MB DDR
Card : GeForce 2 MX 400 64mb (Don't Laugh)
Driver : 56.72, from the NVIDIA web site.
Res : 1024x768x16
Average FPS : 60 with Vsync on, but I bet I could get more.
Minimum FPS: 30 on large open spaces if gl_texturemode is set to gl_linear_mipmap_nearest or when there are LOTS of things going on.
Tweaks: gl_ztrick 1 improves FPS by an unoticeably little margin. And it must be placed in your userconfig.cfg, since HL doesn't save it, so it's reset when you close HL. Also make sure you have gl_texturemode set to gl_nearest if you want more fps, although I prefer to leave AF off and do the filtering tweak using this cvar.
Make sure you are running in 16-bit color depth. It's the configuration that affects FPS the most, at least for my card.
EDIT: I just went to the NVIDIA site and noticed they have released the ForceWare 61.77 drivers, but I fear it may crash HL just like the previous version. So I'm not gonna update it now.
CPU: Pentium 4 CPU 2.53GHz
RAM : 512mb
Card : GeForce4 Ti 4600 128mb
Driver : Dunno, the latest.
Res : 1152x864
Average FPS : 80-99.
Minimum FPS: ~50
