<div class="IPBDescription">NS only via Internet?</div>Hey Folks,

I have seen this game on Giga.de an really liked it.
So I wanted to get it too.
I looked in your Install instructions with Steam and everything
but I don't want to play online. It's just for some LAN Games.

So, can I install and play NS without this Steam crap or not?

Thx

    your choices are:
    1) install steam and install NS 3.0 beta 5 and play with steam in offline mode
    2) Sintall Steam, Install Beta 5, Copy the NS dir to your normal copy of HL
    3) Get a friend to install beta 5 and give you a copy of the NS dir
    4) Install 2.01 or 1.04

Wait a moment. I have to install Half-life first, or not?

So first install Half-Life (it's a very old version but I got Patch 1110)

Second, install Steam and run Half-Life via Steam to get the latest updates (?)

Third install NS Beta 5 and start via Steam

I never used Steam before and haven't installed it yet (cause the always online thing it states while installation)

    What does Steam actually do?

Oh yeah, on the NS page it states that Steam is about 211 MB but I only found a 600 KB File on the Steam Homepage ???

steam is pretty much a requirement to play beta 5 with any number of people. You might find klunky ways to hack it into working without it but it's pretty much unsupported and the userbase is so small it's almost not worth the work.

    Get steam from:
    <a href='http://www.steampowered.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.steampowered.com/</a>

and install it and play thru the first training level of HL.

Then you should be able to install b5 and be gtg.

Check out this faq on how to run steam offline:
