I Have A Big Problem

for some reason when I play NS now my ping feels like staying at just around 300. I'm on a cable modem and other games like CS work fine with no lag at all. It seems the beta 4 and 5 have this problem

    So you've searched the forums?
And found and set all the "rate" settings correctly?

I know.. I really wish someone had an idea of how to fix it. I mean I have been doing better in NS because of lag but it's really not fair for other players

A while back when I played beta 4a, I ran into a similar problem like yours. Except it was much worse. My ping was around 500-600 and NS played like it was on 14.4k or something.

Anyways, I sought to resolve the problem by getting all these spyware/adware removers + virus removers to clean up my computer. The suggestion by my friend worked so my connection stabilized and I was able to play NS with 40 ping. (Then I got another virus that ramped up my ping again and I was kicked off of the school network).

If your connection doesn't fix itself after you sweep your computer, try contacting your ISP's customer service to address the issue. But usually, the cause of intense lag is a virus.

Another thing is to make sure your rates are set correctly (ie cl_updaterate etc..)

Oh ya and make sure that under your steam options, you set your internet speed connection to Cable modem speed. I once failed to do that and NS seemed so crapped out.

How do I set my cl_update rates right?
