To the many people who care.
Version 1.0 was the best version of NS i have ever played. It got me hooked onto the game and i played nearly every single day since my friend burned it on a cd and insisted that i HAVE TO PLAY IT. The graphics and controls were nice and the gameplay was beyond words. Since then i recruited over 100+ gamers in my area to NS.
Version 1 may have had its share of unbalances but to date is the most balanced version of NS there is. I have never seen as more balanced version when aliens have just as much chance of winning as marines when "teamwork" was involved.
Version 2 was close to a disappointment to me when it came out as aliens began to become overpowering in just about every aspect of the game. When it comes down to 1 skilled player who can destroy a group of marines, then you know something is wrong.
Version 3 was the opposite of 2. Marines overpowered aliens. Since people who played version 2 with extreme teamwork were great, they became godlike in version 3. They were unstoppable. While only aliens with complete dedication to teamwork might be able to win. The nature of the alien to work in small groups failed miserably.
Combat the major flaw in the game of Natural Selection.
CO is suppose to be a doorway for begginers to enter the world of NS. But then it became the doorway foir CS to enter into CO. If its not broken then dont fix it. The first version of CO made sense. Sure the respawn times were long if u were level 10 but thats because your not suppose to die in the first place if your lvl10. It takes skill to play the game and your not suppose to be rambo and go on a lone rush because thats what the game has turnned out to become.
Those of you who still enjoy B5, keeo on playing, those of you who dont enjoy B5 then theres other mods out there to play.

Well really there is DOD and CS and maybe a few or couple thrid party mods.
CShas jsut gotten boring, as for dod is just more of a point and shoot, kill. NS was the break of the mold, but when NS starts to get boring theres nothingto do but continue life when you abandoned it to play NS.
/sarcasm
The game has to change, people. NS has yet to come close to ideal balance; the devs are trying to attract new people, add new features, AND balance the game we already have all at once. It's not exactly simple.
Deal with it or get the hell out, no one here wants to hear it! Seriously, why the hell would anyone who hates the game and what it's become wait to read this thread before deciding, "OOOOOH, I KNOW, I HATE NS SO I'LL QUIT!" No, these kind of threads that offer no input and just gripe about the game are pointless and are getting really frickin annoying. No one needs your advice about when to quit playing a computer game, I'm quite sure everyone here is capable of making that decision on their own.

Version 1.01 to 1.04: The JP Rush, Phase Gate Rush, Turret Crawl were all nerfed to stop the horrible constant marine ownage. Games were like this: Marines kill the aliens or marines lock down 2 hives, dragging the game out hours until they eventualy win, or aliens get two hives and the marines instantly died.
Version 2.0 to now: Game became more progressivly more balanced, more stuff added.
It was more fun in 1.0 because it was new, because everyone was figuring things out, and because everybody wondered lost around the maps in small groups, adding to the atmosphere greatly. NS is still fun, just not as new.
Oh, and be nice.

I beg to differ, CO is not a flaw, it is a now essential feature in increasing NS's user base.
The thing is, i have also recruited people to NS, and before CO came out, most of them just left as the learning curve was just to high...
So what if CS peeps wanna play CO??The thing is not only CS peeps try this game... they start off with CO as they hear its easier... the chance is , some of these new players get hooked, increasing the number of players playing NS, therefore increasing the popularity of NS, and once they have played a couple of games in CO, and understand the basics, chances are they will move in and try NS...
More players, is that such a bad thing? it will motivate the Devs to put more work in NS, due to its increasing popularity...
I say it is not the end, there will always be more!! Dont live in the past, embrace the present!!
Stop living in the past kthxbai
Less paper/rock/scissors, more teamwork hax plz

Did you ever play NS 1.0?
It also applies to you.
2.01 was the most balanced version for clanplay.
for pub play... who the hell knows, it changes every game you play. Balance should be achieved from clanplay IMO.
i dunno if theres any servers running 1.04 (there was one a few weeks ago) but u can always start your own server grab a few friends and try it out.
every single game i've been introduced to, the first version i played has always appealed to me the most and that version i will propably always remember as the BEST version of that game. yet i realise that might not actually, in reality, be true.
perhaps you remember 1.04 the best version because of the great game experiences u had back then compared to now. well u see playing in a 10 vs 10 pub, with an idiot comm, a few good clanners on the marine team and crap fades/skulks, no one gorging/lerking, second hive at 7 minutes, elecced rt's, the game experience just might not be very good. seek better games, through clanning or pugs/gathers. also try out other servers for better skill level.
1.04 got boring eventually because of its ease.. i just played to get frags, becuase the strat both teams used would inevitably be the same each time.
2.0 was fun.
3.0 killed ns.

then why are you still here if it sucks?
One idea is to give the marines a passive energy barrier which is powered by a res node. They would be able to set this up and it would keep aliens out of that peice of the map. This is better than aliens fighting turrets with the advantage that it is much more directly linked to res node control than turret farming.
The main purpose of these energy barriers is to act just like a turret farm does and deny aliens an important point. Just like turret farms they will fall if they are not defended, however it wont be such dam hard work taking them down beucause they are strictly passive defenses. Ok so we have marines setting up energy barriers across hallways what happens next? The master plan is to give marines a platform to fight from that does not require turrets. To do this i would make the barriers impenetrable to bullets and to prevent lameness make sure you can't shoot till your beyond the sheild by a good distance (ie no popping out for a quick shot).
The aim is to get marines to form a squad and advance toghether. Battles will thus proceed down the halls going back and forth until the marines establish the next shielded safe haven by captureing the next res node, or until the aliens drive them back behind the shield barrier. Naturally aliens get to attack the barriers and they will go down if undefended. In summary the sheilds act as a time barrier delaying any alien attack until marines can come and defend them.
Note im sure some people are already imagining 3 onos standing outside the barrier ready to devour helpless marines who come through and then cant shoot until they are clear. The point of these sheilds id to allow the marines to organize an advance so when they are ready the commander can drop the barrier, allowing the marines to hit the alien pack with everything they have, at the expense of leaving themselves vulnerable, thus everyone gets time to get toghether and prepare for the battle, then the dogs of war are unleashed.

and your name is the ****. I've read the whole trilogy (all five), very impressive books.
Unless of course R. Milholland stole it from somewhere else and it's just sort of floating everywhere around the internet, which is always a possibility.
And yeah, the Hitchhiker's Guide books are classics. Adams even quit while he was ahead, unlike Pratchett, who just keeps writing even though he stopped being funny some years ago.

Agreed, *sigh*, If only more people thought like this ns would be such a better game.
