Well, it didn't take long, but apparently NS is starting to attract **obscenity** who want to ruin the fun for everybody else.

I was just on a server, with two people with a [myg0t] tag. One was on marines. That was enough to ruin the whole server. This person just went around destroying structures (actually I wasn't aware that was possible). I ejected him from commander and took command, and then trapped him in a structure (haha!) but he just was killed and respawned.

Does the NS team have a strategy to deal with this? Can admin punish players or something (yes I know this can just lead to a bad admin exploit)? There has to be some control here or just one person ruins it for everybody, especially since the teamplay-orientedness forces you to depend on each other.

    Unfortunately,

    It would require an active admin, or a community starting on that server that protected it. Other than to take out the option to reclaim items in the command console. The aliens don't have that option so might be a possible fix for all the idiots who log into commander just to reclaim all of the equipment in order to screw over their team.

    I think that there should just be an option to vote and kick ban players. Most of the time the admin isn't present to kickban players so you are forced to deal with the player ruining the game for everyone, or you are forced to quit and find a server with no griefer. Giving the players the power to vote to kickban griefers would solve all the problems.

    Well, then they'd probably just stop wearing the tag, which would even be worse because you couldn't visually identify them. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    A vote kick/ban seems the most appropriate because they will undoubtedly be outnumbered by the rest of well behaved players.

    One thing he was doing was actually attacking structures as a marine (like, with an MG and shotgun). So that behavior could probably be caught and maybe they would be automatically disabled from attacking for a fixed period of time. Of course you'd have to weigh that against the probability of normal players accidentally shooting structures. Vote kick/ban still seems best.

    For the next patch for ns, make a thing that will automaticly kick anyone that has the name with myg0t inside it. I think that would be effective because they do **obscenity** us off. And instead of going threw the troubble of waiting for a kick and **obscenity** lke that before myg0ts connect they will be kicked. and if they dont change there name after 3 times of tring to connect they get a ban for a day from any ns server?

    There IS such a thing.
    It's one of the adminmod plugins I believe.
    Anyone who puts (at any time) mygot into their name is insta-banned.

    Servers need to get HLGUARD/CSGUARD + ADMINMOD + kickban plugins up and running soon. They're supposed to be compatible regardless of the mod, to some extent.

    The option to ban people with certain names exists..some UK gsp's automatically ban people with dodgy tags...and quite right too.

    The only consolation I can offer is that NS v1.1 will have VALVe's Anti-Cheat (VAC) support in it. Until then, admins, be vigilant.

    myg0t clan is a clan of hackers... They cheat and hack everywhere they can, all the time... On my clan's server on another HL mod, they hacked our server and renamed everyone to [myg0t]PawnedYou , wich a poor and confused admin took as an attack, and banned everyone... We finally got this situation resolved, and those ips, wonids and nicks are permanently banned...     Once again I see people complaining about marines going berserk and destroying their own buildings. I will say what so many have said. Quit playing on tournament mode servers, which are mostly passworded ones from what I have heard. And if you find yourself able to hurt your own buildings, just leave the server. myg0t has certain power in tournament mode, but standard mode they are reduced to simply wasting RP's which honestly, happens quite a bit with commanders that don't know what they're doing. So just sit tight, and avoid tournament mode servers.

    If Adminmod is so great, then why isn't it integrated with NS? Shouldn't these tools be standard for all admins? I've set up adminmod a few times and it's not an easy task for linux server noobs.

    A UI system for adminmod in NS would be cool, too.

    I played with Odium today.

    And yes, he did ruin the game for everybody by destroying the marines own base. We need to work together to end this. These sort of thing almost ruined Global Warfare Mod about a year ago, with these constant attacks from lamers. But in that case the community came together and really made a difference.

    LOL my friend's CS server has that, and I hear a LOT of others do too. [myg0t] = insta kickban. Some even record the IPs and (i think)WonIDs and send them to servers they've screwed over. What happens to the info then, is anyone's guess.

    What's sad is that the community has already given people like "myG0t" (or however those morons spell their tag) what they want, fame and attention, they're idolized and ranted about much in the same way serial killers are idolized and made into movies. Had people just ignored them and left servers and went to new ones when they started up(or had they gotten attention from their parents/girls) then they probably would have given up on the childish little gag long ago. Sadly, being infamous is just being famous with "in" infront of it to most people, and just about everyone lives off of any kind of attention these days.

    Like someone said before, if you ban their tags then they'll either:
    #1 Remove the tag and prevent people from knowing that they are a myg0t.
    #2 Change the tag.

    The simplist (spelling?) idea is not always the best.
