Nwn

Movement speed bug
Got this annoying little bug with NWN. My character is permanently slowed. It's like running around in treacle. It says: "Movement speed decreased" on the Character Sheet. There is no icon on the top-right of the screen to indicate any adverse effects. Now it's not:

- I'm not encumbered.
- I'm not in search/stealth mode.

I've taken all my kit off and dropped it. No difference. I've restarted NWN. No difference.

Thoughts anyone ?

It happens some times with the web spells. Usually relogging onto a server will clear that up. Donno how you would get around that in a single player module though.

You could always take a monk level, become encumbered, remove the encumberance and gain permanent 150% movement speed...

2 years and umpteen patches, and that game is still riddled with bugs and exploits...

OK, thanks. I have been webbed by spiders and the like. Sigh, good job I've got a job lot of saves. Looks like I'm going to have revert to a previous save and lose loads of work.

Is there a binary hacker that can deconstruct the save files and fix it ?

It can also happen if you died and stabilized. We saw that a few times on our server, where people were stuck slowed until someone cast Restoration on them.

Made the clerics popular at least.

Uhh - Firefox just nuked my reply.

Anyway, I've checked out the NWN forums over at Bioware. There are numerous posts to do with unwanted effects attached to characters (and mercs as well it seems). Anyway, since I'm on single player mode, it looks as though I need to access DM mode or something. Does anyone have any pointers ?

Tried the obvious, such as going to Aribeth or similar for healing? Or that cleric-y mercenary?

Potions of lesser restoration are your friend. They're like Fisherman's Friend, no matter what's wrong, your breath will always be minty fresh after you have one.

Nope, tried taking every potion under the sun. In the end, resting solved it. Perhaps I was tired ?

If not that, maybe scrolls of Greater REstoration. Cures any ailment known to man!

I've found it can be infuriating in places. For example, I'm playing a straight fighter because I never understood dual/multi classing and all that jazz. So I've got that annoying little tosser to open all my chests and disable all the traps. Except he doesn't half the time. I have to click on a chest many times sometimes to get him to unlock it. In end, my strength is so high, I end up bashing most of them. Also, he has a habit of detecting traps in rooms that neither of us can even see. So he legs it in their waking up all the nasties.

Also, I seem to spend half my time shifting stuff around my packs.

Organize your inventory so your critical battle equipment is on page one, so you don't spend time flipping around to try to find it. Saves a lot of time. I learned to organize stuff in a certain fashion so I knew where everything was.

    Aye

    Page1: Weaps
    Page2: Armor
    Page3: Potions
(page2 and 3 diff on character)

Yeah, I know. I've got important stuff page one, bags page two, potions page 6 etc... But since I don't know what to keep, and what I can safely throw away yet, I tend to keep as much as I can. So my inventory is overflowing. I've bought every bag I can lay my hands on.

Btw - no spoilers please - I've not completed the game yet !

The not supposed to be permanent effect bug is supposed to be fixed in the 1.64 patch (currently availble as beta). But it is not entirely boring to run around with your char shining green!

There's a character editor called "Leto", allows you to edit your character files.

You can change your model, portrait, stats, etc.

Eg: In multiplayer i made a character that looks like a chair, snake, kitten. Very fun indeed.

Well, it's fixed now - resting sorted the problem. I wonder if there's a "tired" character state ? Because I never bother resting because I'm a fighter. Thanks for the heads up on Leto.

I dunno, resting is the cheap and easy way to regain health and abilites, fighter or no.

If you don't rest then you're probably spending a silly amount of time using healing potions, when you could be selling them for profit.

Well, if anyone would care to join our PW, PM me and I'll make sure you get details. I would publically post, but as always I don't like advertising any more than you guys.

Ah. I never rest. Besides, I've got an enourmous bag of cash, so potions aren't that big of a deal. I will rest more though if it gives free healing. What's a PW ? Private War ?

Wow... you actually used the mercanaries in the NWN single player? I only messed with them to do the merc side-story quests and see what items I could get out of them =3

Mind you I've only played with a mage (open door, make faces at baddies, close door, count to 3, fireball door, laugh at bodies) and rogue (super high dex + perma haste + dual wield = hello opening 6 rapid-fire backstab attacks and sneaking at speeds people normally run at ^^; ) so I don't know what it's like to be a funny warrior person

edit: mage version of disable trap: summon boar XD

Persistant World Creep. Your characters are saved Server-side (so you don't get those servers where everyone convienently is 40th level with max everything) and it's saved regularily, so you can come back & play the same character (and level them up) later.

Some PW really boost crafting. In the game its mostly cosmetic but PW make it into proper item creation.

    Well, some do.

I prefer going shifter, turning into a minotaur, and wading into whatever trap. That or summon dire wolf/animal companion, hehe.
