:D Woot!
I picked up some cheap yet kickass Logitech 6.1 speakers, but since my card is only 5.1 and I had no room for the Rear Center speaker anyway I didn't hook that one up. it sounds really, really awesome though, so I'm uber glad that I got these. Only $90 too! :D

My only complaint is there is way way way too much bass. I had to crank it down on the subwoofer and in general for it to be at my tastes. Other than that though, it pwns.

And gaming. OMG Is it awesome to play games w/ surround sound support. OMG. When a teammate behind me and too my left shoots, I actually hear the sound from behind and to the left! Its the sort of thing you just have to hear for yourself. Its just amazing!

And I'd swear some of the MP3s I got are in surround sound. O.o Is that even possible?

For a really scary experience try and find a game that still allows you to use A3D instead of EAX. Despite being developed a long time ago A3D makes 3D sound so good it makes your head melt and EAX sounds like stereo by comparison.

What happened to A3D? Well funnily enough Creative Labs (producers of EAX) bought the company responsible out and essentially removed it from the market... I still don't get it but that's pretty much what happened and even today's EAX version whatever doesn't touch the old A3D ~blink~

I shall find some 'specimens' to try this scientific 'experiment' with Ambassador!

    Question for you sound buffs:

Right now my subwoofer is in between my pc desk and the wall. Would there be less vibrations against things if i moved it to the other side where there's a bunch of open space? I don't like me walls vibrating. :(

I've just ordered the Logitech Z640s to replace my ailing Creative Inspire 5100s.

Surround Sound is the bee's knees.

I have the 5.1 set of those speakers, and I love the bass. This is the 2nd set I bought because I blew out my old sub playing NS, because of those damn ambient noises that would make my sub go crazy.

yeah I just picked up some Logitech Z-680s and a Audigy 2 ZS recently, both THX. Great stuff. Not only that, I got a guy with 3 music degrees who's written papers on ear training, among other things to balance the levels on all my speakers.

I stand corrected, very sneaky of you, lying to her saying you knew about MS access

What soundcard are you using Doomy and do you think
soundcards make much difference to the 5.1 output?

I also have 5.1 speakers but I think they'll alittle too
close to each other to have the full effect.

i have the 4.1 set and they sound pretty darn good, although not as good as the 5.1 or 6.1 sets. Then again, I didn't pay that much for them.

You get what you pay for and I'm going to leave it at that.
If you're looking to shell out some money for good speakers for a computer (A real speaker system will require you to get a receiver and probably run you well over 1500 dollars total)
Go with klipsch period end of story. They'll run you about 350$ and out perform anything anybody has to offer in the PC speaker market. Yes even that 500$ Creative 7.1 set is dwarfed by this monster of a speaker system. Logitech is marginally better than Creative speaker wise but they don't hold a candle to Klipsch.
And anyone who brings up bose gets a swift kick in the groin . Overrated proprietary trash

    hmm...

I moved the subwoofer from out inbetween the pc desk and the wall and I put it on the left side...

Sound is better and the bass is less intense, yet its shaking the carpet a little.. right where my foot is... Its getting on my nerves.

    Any advice for alternate placement?

Ok, ok - I had just gotten out of the shower and they needed help getting the internet working here on campus XD

As for reducing the vibration - try covering the subwoofer with a cloth. Increase the thickness to reduce vibration further.
