NVIDIA has released new version 40.72 <a href='http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=feature_detonator' target='_blank'>Detonator Drivers</a>, their cross-GPU reference driver package (thanks squideye). They have released new WinNT drivers, new WHQL Certified drivers for <a href='http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_40.72' target='_blank'>WinXP/2k</a> and <a href='http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=win9x_40.72' target='_blank'>Win9x/ME</a>, promising "Up to a 25% increase in performance," and for that matter, they have also released a new set of FreeBSD drivers as well.

    Yeah drivers = good stuff. If you haven't updated them in a long time, you can gain like 15-20 fps in halflife.

    So , does this only occur on 9x Systems ? I just downloaded them for my W2k but haven't updated yet.

    I have a nvidia geforce 3, if I dl the drivers do they go along with the ones I have or will it replace them? Will it crash my computer or anything or is it safe? Because I just got a new computer and I dont want to hassle with trying to fix it over and over.

    It shouldn't mess your computer up, you have to restart after they finish installing but thats it. I have win 98 so I got that error =[

    Worked for me. I'm using 98se. Are you sure you got the Detonator 40 drivers and not the other one? It's not terribly intuitive on the nvidia site.

    im using win98se, but i get the same missing file error. the beta version of that driver worked so god knows whats wrong

    the beta drivers gave me some nasty graphical errors in quark(cursor in openGL view was messed up) and NS (menu's woudln't dissapear, text didn't show), i reverted back to 30.82 drivers, and they work fine s:)

    I find that the new version of the drivers really doesn't like HL at all and games in general. I had to rollback to 28.32 to play any sort of game without my computer crashing, and to even install HL.     I used the "Wizard" on nvidia.com and downloaded the respective drivers for Windows 98se

    Oh well, i'm happy with my pc's current Frames Per Second and performance so no worries.

    I never get beta drivers. These worked fine, I'm on XP pro.
