Not everyone uses IRC, you shouldn't assume that everyone uses it.
Personally I find IRC a waste of time.

IRC is basically a chat program / P2P file transfer program. Not everyone has it. Having "idlers" is the most retarded thing ever. "Wow I have people in my IRC channel omg WTH bbq!"

I would appreciate you atleast checking out my forum setup, before bashing my post. I have a forum for questions for those <u><i><b>WITHOUT INTERNET RELAY CHAT</b></i></u>
IRC lets me organize thing in real time. I could careless about the idlers, they can leave after the session they want.

Until Windows comes pre-installed (Or a popular game for that matter.) with IRC, then I will forever be against it. It's a third party program and shouldn't be a "Staple" for a community.
That and my burning hatred for "Chatters" (People who sit around all day on the net and talk about stuff.)

But back on topic, if you didn't include an alternate way to have people sign up for this event, it'd be filled with IRC "w<b><i></b></i>hores". Instead of newbies who actually need help and don't want to take the time to download, install, learn IRC, and register an IRC account through tech support or however you do it.

And what exactly is Half-Life? Did Microsoft make a special edition of Windows with Half-Life installed?
Also since a large influx to the game is from CS/Dod IRC is a perfect client, since those games also rely on irc....
