<div class="IPBDescription">Help?</div> Since the Microsoft website didn't seem to help any, I was hoping somebody here could help me. It seems every time I hit certain keys, namely 1,5,7, 8,`,r,y and i, numbers or other letters are inserted infront of them. This is how it looks:

`1
5r
7y
8i

Can anybody here help me?

Wow thats a weird one. Have you checked out
your Keyboard's properties in the "Control Panel"?

Check for odditites there and check out your "Device Manager" too
    for oddness there.

    Oh dear.

Go to control panel, system, click on Hardware tab, look for the "Device Manager" button. Look for keyboard under that.

1: Are you using a keyboard that has multiple functions for each key (like a laptop that has a "Function" button to make part of the keyboard into a numpad)? I have a laptop that has that, and the function key always registers as down, so half the keyboard makes wierd punctuation and stuff.

2: Is your keyboard layout correct? Foreign keyboard layouts can make keys act really funny, even if said foreign country has the same language (British and American/Canadian layouts are slightly different for example)

That actually sounds like a short circuit. Did you spill anything on the keyboard recently? If you haven't, try cleaning out any crumbs or anything from between the keys and giving it a good cleaning.

yup, the fact that they are all hitting keys next to the intended keys mean there is a physical problem with the keyboard, be it short circuit or simply the wires being pressed together with age.

you can take it apart and poke arond with it (the only exposed electronics are under the part with the numlock light and the caps lock light) to see if the problem goes away, or else a standard new kb is 11$

Try replacing the keyboard with one you KNOW it works, if that solves the problem, you need another keyboard <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
