no not mapping...
ok, I have addicted some of the CS majors in my college to this and we have been playing in the lab (dear god it is sweet ;D)

however one of my friends came up with the idea of mapping out the maps (so that 1 we know em better and 2 we can do fast strategies and such)

so here is 2 things

1) when ever we take a pic from commander view, the main view is black, is this intentional or something screwy?

2) b/c that wasn't working what we have now done is take the minimap, blow it up, and asigne each spot set colors (weldables are red, hives are green, recources are grey etc). We have also labled most of the areas with their in game names, so if any one is interested in this PM me and I can send it to you (or possibly post it some where).

This is also all assuming that the devs don't mind this, if they do, please tell me. (I don't think I am infringing on anything)

humph, 2X post, sorry been having probs with the board (DELL ME PLS!!)

Do this instead, and you'll get a much more helpful picture.

    1. Start NS and select "console" from the main menu.

    2. Type "Developer 1" in the console.

    3. Type "map" followed by the name of the map you want to load.

    4. When the map loads, you should appear in the ready room (you are effectively in single-player mode). Hit "~" to bring down the console, and type "dev_overview 1". Now you'll have a nice parallel, overhead view of the entire map. But wait, there's more!

In most NS maps, the ready room is 'above' most of the map, so it will be visible in this overhead view. If you want a clean view of just the regular map without the ready room, use the keys bound to "swim up" and "swim down" to adjust the upper limit of the view (the zmin). By default, these keys are "v" and "c". Just hold the key down that lowers the zmin height (watch the numbers at the top of the screen).

Once you are ready to take a screenshot, bring down the console and type "developer 0". This will turn off the text information.

I have been trying to get this simple instruction to work. But for some reason its not working, and I'm not getting the overhead view of the map. I am following the instruction exactly like typed, including case sensitivity. Anyone have a suggestion as to what I might be doing wrong?

I have the original HL game (not counterstrike) and I of course am running the 1.0 version of the NS client.

its interesting, I for some reason could not get the commands to run,

however the guy I am doing this with, was sitting next to me in lab and for some reason he could just get it to pop right up (and he was simply running a coppy of the game, realy not sure)

ok, I will give an update to my maps when I get into the lab, however I may try and save em off till I get em all finnished and nice looking

The Overview didn't work for me either. So , if someone who does happen to have some working maps posts them I would be delighted.
