whats a goodway to deal with jps
Hmm its been a while since I played..but I was just wondering...what's the best alien lifeform to counter jetpacks on NS_ maps.

I was thinking lerk, but w/o focus its quite tough. I've mostly seen fades do it.

What I do in CO is I hold my crouch key (X), I look at the JP'er, and when he doesn't have so much momentum I leap and xeno while getting as many bites off as I can. (Usually just one depending on his momentum.)

If I don't kill the JP'er the xeno usually brings him to the ground to get eaten.

    NS NOT CO.
    for instance ns_tanith, ns_agora etc...

co is different. all you need to do is save up for focus and with any lifeform you will pwn the jps.

ns maps, on the other hand, are maps where you don't get focus when you spawn back in. everything costs res.

In NS_ having more than one hive will allow you to handle jetpackers.

    2 Hives:

    Leapbite for skulks
Spores and bite for lerk; umbra to halve his damage on you or whatever his target is
    Blinkswipe for fades.

As a lerk, you should be able to fly faster than him, so you can pick him off. As a fade, predict his movements and blinkswipe him. An easily predicatble location to pick him off is when he stops flying to pick up a medpack off the ground.

    3 Hives:

    leapxeno for skulks
    Primalbite for lerks
    acid rocket for fades

Acid rocket is primarily for softening him up before you move in for the kill. Once you rocket off his armor, 1 focus swipe will take care of him nicely. If you can't predict his movements well, just keep picking him off with the rockets. 11 rockets = dead armor3 marine.

    2 hives.

I guess skulks with leap could handle jps. But i'm really asking what the best lifeform, other than gorge or skulk, would be best for killing those jps.

The only 3 life forms that can truely handle jetpackers solo are skulks, lerks, and fades, so its all a matter of which you are best with.

A team effort would include gorgeweb.

Onos can handle jps in VERY small rooms.

They key to fighting JPers is to fight them were aliens have the biggest advantage.

Short in height and length hallways.

Don't just let them attack your hive, since an overwhelming majority of hives are JP friendly.

Attack them where you have the advantage. JPs are kinda steep and tough to control, so use that to your advtange when fighting them.

jpers are rather easy to predict as to where they are going, as they have momentum and can't easily change direction fast, unlike a lerk.

this makes blink swiping quite a usable tactic. also jpers have to come back down eventually...and by predicting their movements skulks who stay on the floor can easily steal a bite when the jper lands on the floor. then it's just a matter of repeating this.

lerks are good for support. sporing the jper and umbra-ing his target is nice, but an experienced jper can easily take on a lerk 1v1 especially with hmg and shotty, so i wouldn't say lerk would be the best lifeform to coutner jp.

of course having teamwork is always the best...scattered ocs around the hive, webs, spores, etc.. but if i have to say the best lifeform, i would vote for the fade.

Well, essentially, JP's are pretty much countered by hive 2. (leap, umbra, fades with nigh unlimited energy, probably MC's to compliment probably DC's, etc) But they're a way to stomp dominance over fadeless hive 1 aliens.

Fade > JP. Lerks are nice to have around too.

As people have been saying, the real counter to the Jetpack is another Hive. With only one Hive (or fewer! biggrin-fix.gif) the Kharaa simply can't do much about it. Lerks might be able to Bite them, but will probably get shot down trying. Fades still have a chance, but it's a lot more difficult. It's really the lack of second Hive abilities, and the Hive's armour boost, that make Jetpacks a **** against a single-Hive Alien team. Sorry to say, but if the Aliens are caught in that situation, you shouldn't expect them to win.

In the event that you aren't referring to the cataclysmical situation that is the single-Hive Jetpack attack, well a lot of things can counter them. Skulks can do it with Leap if they're skilful and careful. Umbra makes everything so much easier. The armour boost helps everyone too, especially the Fade, who I think to be the dominant anti-Jetpack lifeform. I know that the Lerk is supposed to be a hard counter to the Jetpack, but unfortunately it just isn't. Umbra-ed Fades for the win.

OC's will pressure and kill JP'ers the easiest and most "macromanaged" way.

Just make some OC's and only worry if the JP perches on your hive. Then it's a matter of climbing up and killing him.

If only it were that simple...

OCs are good against Jetpackers, but not that good. A skilful Jetpacker can make sure that the OCs are completely unable to track him/her 98% of the time.

Static defense is never a solution, just a compliment to the real solution.

OCs in intelligent locations, ideally this means vents near the hive. A few in the hive as optional protection.

No, they won't kill JPs but they'll help when you're trying to bite the jp. If you can get him into a corner then he's a dead man from OC fire.

Second, lerks. Spore spam! It means he has to have meds, and medding is tricky on moving targets. Regardless of whether or not spore stacks, it'll still weaken him. If someone else is sporing then you could attempt to glide around and bite him.

Third and an option for the truly leet, is the Fade. Nub fades won't do it, barring luck, so you'd need a half decent flying fade to put the swipe on him.

At three hives you also have the option of Focus - it means jpers are a LOT easier to kill as you'll only really need one good bite on him if you're supported by spores and OC.

Just make sure you react to the JPer... and also consider that while the 6 of you are chasing ONE jetpack his five friends could be putting up sieges nearby. If the team is running after the JPer, consider doing a quick loop around the hive room... just in case.

o yea i forgot about ocs..that's a really good idea. I hardly see people put them in hives though. sad-fix.gif

One thing that used to **** me off was when a bunch of jpers came into the hive with shotties and just sat on top, emptying clip after clip into it.

ever thought of lerk spores? this isnt CO so a jper cant just get a medpack every 5 seconds and spores will keep him moving and get him killed by something else.

i guess if you use a combination of attacks it will work. I hardly see spores make the kill alone though. But it does the trick quite well when your other teammates and ocs are chipping away at their hp

Well as I already posted, spores negate medspam, and they're easy to aim.

Spores also freak out rines, and freaked out rines screw up, meaning their OC fodder.

JPs are easy to kill with ranged area weaponry. Spores reign supreme. OC are good for when the JP stops moving, and if you've two skulks chasing him he's going to have a hell of a time staying alive.

    I eat them as Onos.

They are surprisingly easy to devour mid-flight, but the shorter the room the better.

in NS having a really good fade early on makes all the difference, but you cant allways count on having one on your team.

another thing, if its clear your last hive is going down and they are shotgunning you as you spawn, play the six flags song over voice comm. it is the only thing that can chear your team up.
