<div class="IPBDescription">Armor, how does it work?</div> I've been pondering about the armor system in NS. If your read the manual you can see for example that the HA absorbs 90% of the damage and as Kharaa if you upgrade carpace your armor absorbs 20%/level. So I wonder does this mean 1. that the damage goes to the armor or 2. the damage is negated. IE Marine with 100hp/100ap HA. Weapon does 100 hp in case 1 the hp should be 90hp/10ap. Or will it be 100hp/90ap?

    So a L3 Carapaced Onos effectively absorbes 60% of damage when he has armor?

    Wow. I seriously underestimated carapace.

    I think it works that way that if the armour is 60% the armour will absorbe 60 % of the damege and the rest of the damage wil take off the health.

    Eg. a Onos with lvl 3 carpace is 500 / 200. a marine shoots a grenade at him wich does say 200 damage. the armour will absorb 60% of 200 = 120. and the rest of the damage, 80 is absorbed by the health. So after the grenade the onos have 420 hp and 80 AR left.

    So basicly they could just increase the total hp of the Onos for each upgrade. Putting it 700hp / 0ap rather than 500hp / 200ap?

    Onos should keep the armor since he is thought of as a huge armored beast.

    That would only work if you hit the onos with the grenade, dmg decreases the further out the center. Well yes any way i believe it works just like stormeh said.

    So this means if you had armour with 100% you wouldnt get harmed until all the armour health had droped. That also means the higher the absorb the quiker the armuiors health drops.

    Well I just used the grenade as an example, because they deal out much damage instead of using a hit from a LMG. 200 ap 60% absorb of 10 = 6. 6 damage to armour and 4 to health. The onos will have 496 hp and 194 ap after being shot once with a LMG (If that is how armour works) <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    This isn't on topic about armor, but if you're gonna be an Onos get - Cloaking, Regeneration, and Adrenaline (or Celerity) that is the best combo for them, funny when you scare the **obscenity** out of a marine cuz you were cloaked, and Celerity...omg that Onos just got shot in the *** cuz he's sure running fast. Regeneration is great with Adrenaline + Cloak cuz you can run into enemy base, kick some arse, run out, cloak, regenerate health and energy quick and you're right back in action.

    Just a "gameplay strategy" have fun.!

    Well if you have good gorges on your team you wont need regeneration for any lvl, as 5 def chambers heals quicker than regeneration.

    Edit: Just came to my mind that they modifyed regeneration to increase hp in relation to max hp instead of 3 hp per sec or so. I havent tried regeneration since the new patch, since i think carapace is much better <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    doesnt really know..., i have just used carpace or wtf its called once, and i was a lerk then, so i get 75 armor, and then i never used it again <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> i should give it another try <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> but i mostly use adrenaline and regenration, that sensory chabers, i dont know wich one i should get, mostly i get invincible thing, forgotten the name, but huh..., dont see any1 of the 3 thing nececarry, but i take 1 so it stops blink in right corner <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Carapace is certainly the best. I dont get it, whats the point in celerity for onos, he runs pretty fast any way plus if ya got adrenaline you can just charge and once it runs out energy fills fast.

    I seen an onos that had just evolved at a hive we started attacking, i had jetpack and glauncher. He buggered off and came back and cloaked, i just started laughing and launched 4 grens hitting him with every one.

    you cant beat regen, cloak and silence on a onos <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> (all lvl3 btw)

    I thought you could only get lvl 3 for the sensory chamber, can you get more levels on each tree?

    Ahhhh, this explains much. And here I was thinking that Carapace (note: not marine armor) damage soaking worked in an entirely different fashion (part of my misunderstanding I will attribute to a specific passage from the manual: "A creature that only took one clip to kill at the beginning of a battle shrugs off four clips of light machine gun fire and leaves a squad of marines looking like they've been fed through a wood-chipper."
    I was under the impression that alien armor actually SOAKED a % of damage, as in, absorbed it without taking damage from it. Thus, an lmg bullet would do only 7 total damage to an unupgraded alien (with 30% damage soak). I think part of the reason I thought this was the fact that I was in a game with no less than 4 LMG marines shooting at a gorge, him straffing in and out of a doorway back to the cover of his towers, and we COULD NOT KILL HIM. I figure, 150 health, lmg's doing 10 damage a bullet (can't remember if we were upgraded), should only take 16-17 bullets (counting damage healing from def chambers), which it seems like 4 marines should be able to pull off, yet that gorge WOULD NOT DIE.

    So, the damage soak simply means that armor takes the damage instead of health? Seems kinda pointless to me, I mean, they could just give the aliens more health, as the end result is the same.

    I understand the seperation for marines, as marine welder healing can't heal health, but for aliens, any kind of healing, be it Hive, Def chamber, Healing Spray, or regen, all heal health AND armor.
    I guess it's just for style?

    you could have it were it was health that increased, that would make stuff harder though. A skulk with carapace has 30 armour, that doesnt take long to get rid of. once thats gone he just gets hit like normal. If you boosted his health instead, he would probably last longer.

    Remember armour runs out. once it hits 0 you get hit like normal.
