<div class="IPBDescription">Armor, how does it work?</div> I've been pondering about the armor system in NS. If your read the manual you can see for example that the HA absorbs 90% of the damage and as Kharaa if you upgrade carpace your armor absorbs 20%/level. So I wonder does this mean 1. that the damage goes to the armor or 2. the damage is negated. IE Marine with 100hp/100ap HA. Weapon does 100 hp in case 1 the hp should be 90hp/10ap. Or will it be 100hp/90ap?

Wow. I seriously underestimated carapace.
Eg. a Onos with lvl 3 carpace is 500 / 200. a marine shoots a grenade at him wich does say 200 damage. the armour will absorb 60% of 200 = 120. and the rest of the damage, 80 is absorbed by the health. So after the grenade the onos have 420 hp and 80 AR left.
So this means if you had armour with 100% you wouldnt get harmed until all the armour health had droped. That also means the higher the absorb the quiker the armuiors health drops.

Edit: Just came to my mind that they modifyed regeneration to increase hp in relation to max hp instead of 3 hp per sec or so. I havent tried regeneration since the new patch, since i think carapace is much better <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I seen an onos that had just evolved at a hive we started attacking, i had jetpack and glauncher. He buggered off and came back and cloaked, i just started laughing and launched 4 grens hitting him with every one.

I was under the impression that alien armor actually SOAKED a % of damage, as in, absorbed it without taking damage from it. Thus, an lmg bullet would do only 7 total damage to an unupgraded alien (with 30% damage soak). I think part of the reason I thought this was the fact that I was in a game with no less than 4 LMG marines shooting at a gorge, him straffing in and out of a doorway back to the cover of his towers, and we COULD NOT KILL HIM. I figure, 150 health, lmg's doing 10 damage a bullet (can't remember if we were upgraded), should only take 16-17 bullets (counting damage healing from def chambers), which it seems like 4 marines should be able to pull off, yet that gorge WOULD NOT DIE.
So, the damage soak simply means that armor takes the damage instead of health? Seems kinda pointless to me, I mean, they could just give the aliens more health, as the end result is the same.
I understand the seperation for marines, as marine welder healing can't heal health, but for aliens, any kind of healing, be it Hive, Def chamber, Healing Spray, or regen, all heal health AND armor.
I guess it's just for style?

Remember armour runs out. once it hits 0 you get hit like normal.
