That was an excellent idea!
edit: Gah, it lowercased NSGuides and chopped off the n. Or I typo'd the n possibly. Sorry about that :/
I was in IRC having trouble getting my linux server started. I joined #naturalselectionhelp and [FoR]Inter immediately pointed me to these forums, specifically the thread that fixed my problem. It was a quick fix and I had my server up. He asked for the IP, saying that he would join later, so I gave it to him. I honestly didn't expect him to join.
So I was playing on there as aliens much later that night. We were getting stomped by marines. A GSGuide joins (Inter-something) and asks if I was the Tweedle he helped in IRC. It took me off gaurd that he had actually joined He helped guide our team to put up a decent fight for what we had left. On the next map, I joined Marines and Inter followed me. I took a seat at the CC and Inter guided me through the ins and outs, explaining basic strategies and what I had to do to keep things running. He told everyone that this round didn't matter as far as who won or lost, and that this was a learning experience. About five minutes into it, someone else joined (his first NS game) and announced that he was a complete newbie. The response from the entire team was that newbies were welcomed with open arms and that we were going over the game basics anyway. I was again impressed. None of the "get out noobie omg llama." He thanked us for not flaming him and he quickly picked up on the first-person aspects of marines. Through the futile efforts of my management, Inter guided and supported me the whole way, giving hints about how to make the team happy, how to get resources quickly, how to deny the aliens hives before they were built, etc.
The aliens won the round and Inter took the CC position for the next. He gave commands and displayed the basis of teamwork, insisting that we stick together and work as a team. While we were organized, we were moving at a much slower pace, as it was a learning experience to everyone on the team. (The aliens had a few vets and didn't really need much help )
To summarize a bit, [NSGuide]Inter was awesome. He was patient, explained things clearly, made very helpful suggestions, and most importantly, made a huge impression on me of the community's foundation. I am proud to be a supporter (eh, I run a server, doesn't that count? ) of a game so fun with an awesome group of players.
Major thanks to you, [NSGuide]Inter. You made the game experience of myself and others extremely enjoyable.

I'm a RL friend of [NSGuide]SgtBilko, and he's been nothing but helpful to new players.

Try asking questions on the servers I've frequented, they actually will help you. They actually take the time to answer.
I just truly hope that NS community never turns into how the CS community currently acts.
Take care all.

Lies! All lies!
Guides are great. I've been server hopping a fair bit (not as much as I'd like), so you may have seen me around.
I had the chance to play with one of them ([NSGuide]NemesisZero) at the night of release and also I'm a "Informed Noob" for reading this forums quite a time, he was really helpful to everyone.
But one of the nicest effect was that his helpfull attitude completely infected the whole server. I'm not sure, but I think most of the players wouldn't be half as helpful without a good example like NemesisZero.
Big Thanks to all [NSGuides] out there! Let's follow their example
Typically when we are 'on duty' we will put the [NSGuide] tag on to indicate that you can PM us with questions.
I personally get a lot of satisfaction out of helping you all, but Tweedle's message really made my day!
Thanks everyone for the kind words!

I havent seen any NSGuides, but I don't play on any specific server, yet..
Greedo, if you're an NSGuide I saw one! I saw you in a server a few days after release, but I was in a bad mood that night so sorry for a bad first impression Being a n00b to a game is never fun and it's great that this community will support new players and vets alike. Hopefully it will always stay like this and not go down to the childish antics of the annoying young people.
I'll stop typing now, I never was a good speaker (typer?)
