<div class="IPBDescription">an announcement because GLiO told me to</div> GLiO and I have gotten together, and we're going to merge his marine scripts, my commander scripts, make some alien scripts, and combine them all to make one giant uberscript that will pretty much allow you to bypass the popup menus entirely.
Not sure when it will be done, probably this weekend.
So all you other people working on scripts, stop RIGHT NOW <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
(okay, don't, be that way, see if we care <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
Anyway, GLiO and I have been bouncing ideas back and forth, and we've got some good stuff. More news when.. well, when we finish <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I agree that commanders should have shortcuts but I see no reason for normal players to need scripts...AM I OUT ON A LIMB HERE?
Also, keep in mind that Flay has put in code to prevent excessive alien scripting - the most obvious example being a script to switch to leap, leap, and switch back to bite as a skulk. As I understand it, a script like this will kill you outright.
Commanders might need it yes. And i agree that for normal players, they don´t really need it, except for maybe marines, who need fast access to ammo and health requests, but i think that it´s already integrated into the "Controls" menu.
However, commander scripting would be handy if you can remember everything.
we aren't going to be putting in anything like that, i consider that pretty cheap. marines stuff will mostly be communication things (trust me they are VERY useful) and some other stuff.
How far the binds will go, I'm not quite sure yet, but they will be at least somewhat useful, trust me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Oh, and as far as crashing/cheat prevention goes, I've run into some of that already just messing around. Like GLiO said, none of that, and we'll be testing everything to make sure it doesn't crash.
I personally like the idea of alias protection, it levels things out a little bit. We're going to do what we can within those bounds.

HOWEVER, on the flip side of the coin, I can also see a beneficial use in having scripts. One effect that many people experienced (especially on the laggy V1 servers) was a "menu shadow" that would remain on the screen even after the menu had been closed (you can wipe the "shadow" by opening the menu and slowly moving through the tree to remove it). So, in the case of someone with a slow connection or prone to lag spikes and the like, having the scripts would be a good thing. It'd mean never having to deal with "Menu Shadow Syndrome" again.
So, there's both pros and cons to this. Personally, I like the RMB menu tree and I'm going to use it. But I'm not going to tell someone to stop working <i>independently</i> on a system that would increase gaming enjoyment and assist them in playing. By all means, please continue working on your scripts. I think that if I were a Dev, I'd be honored that people were taking the time out to do such a thing, building on fan info and making the game better for people.
Cheers.
I think i have once made the mistake of building a OT intead of RT because i wasn´t paying attention. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
rest - no
pie menu is easy enough
LOL!
I think alot of it comes from the fact that most would simply use this as a means to cheat (a la LEAN+MOVE in MOH), and so EVEN IF something is usefull, we all know that there are those who are wooed by the dark side and will use this.
All I ever got done was the GLiO-inspired make-the-Q-key-switch-between-two-weapons script. It switches between weapons 1 and 2 for marines, and you pick which two it goes between on aliens using the numpad or 5-0 number keys. Gimme a PM or email (<a href='mailto:arabidllama@hotmail.com'>arabidllama@hotmail.com</a>) if you want it.
<a href='http://rawr.mine.nu/rabidscripts.zip' target='_blank'>http://rawr.mine.nu/rabidscripts.zip</a>
These contain:
For Marine: They make the Q key switch between weapons 1 and 2
For Commander: My commander scripts. They use the numberpad as a sort of analog version of the onscreen menus. Hit numpad 7-9 *twice* to switch to the menu of your choice (7 is Basic, etc), then just press the key that corresponds with the same spot on screen to do the same as clicking it (9-9 to change to Equip, then 4 to pick up an ammo pack)
For Alien: A set of Gorge binds (using numpad 7-9, +, enter, and ./del) for building, and a Q key weaponswitch using the numpad to select which two weapons you want to switch between. Not totally the same as the Q key normally does (lastinv), but it does in fact work.
Also, it makes the insert key (the above Delete, next to Backspace), act the same way as holding down "E". So basically, look at building, hit insert to start building, have hands free to type, then hit insert again to stop building.
Didn't really have a chance to test them since I cleaned them up a bit, but they shouldn't have any problems. The main part has been working great for a few days.
The one thing that this is missing is communication: none of the voice commands are involved, but I know there are several scripts out there that have that functionality (and, in fact, not much of these scripts of mine is *new* per-se, except for the q-key thing, which I'm proud of <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->) (even though it was pretty much GLiO's ides <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
Anyway, it's late. I'll leave this here overnight and check back tomorrow. Post here if the scripts broke when I wasn't watching <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
(and hmm, IIS acting strange again. I apologize if the link doesn't work, I THINK I fixed it...)
