Common Thing
Once again, moderators won't like what I have to say. Half-Life is a game, Rated "M" for Mature. With me? It is also required to play Natural-Selection, so the fact becomes obvious, that maybe their shouldn't be language restrictions everywhere. Most servers prohibit "cuss" words, with which I fail to understand why. This is a discussion forum, so change the name if you don't want a inquiry of this type. I could understand, that a lot of people are offended by "cuss" words, immature behavior, perversion, and other generally "evil" ideas. Which brings out the fact that most "bible-thumpers" already think games such as Half-Life are the devil. I understand that the Server ops reserve their own rights, for which they host the server, not me. But it doesn't seem logical to play a "M" game and not expect to have mature conversations.

i never understood what people dont understand? its thier server, they dont want cuss words. i admin a server and frankly, i dont want to see the f word splashed across the screen every 5 seconds by some 12 year old. you say you want to have MATURE conversations, well, if you cant even have a conversation without swearing, well may i suggest taking some english lessons. there are so many other words to use to express your emotions.

    I admin, also. In addition.

    1. Although the game is rated “M”, the “M” is for blood and violence, the rest comes from people who play it. There are a lot of teenagers and kids under 12 playing the mods. It is disturbing when kids say words that they shouldn’t say at their age, and become disrespectful. One might say, “Well if you don’t want them to say such words, don’t let them play” That means that 90% of kids should live in a jar, I guess. Simply because they are exposed to the same environment almost everywhere. The improvement should start somewhere, and why not from the community, which has become such a big part f daily life, and continues to grow: on-Line game servers and admins.

    2. Stereotypical words in addition to foul language tend to fire up players and start fights on servers. Pretty soon everyone on the server is involved, instead of playing.

When playing, the last thing I want to hear is someone who decided that every other word they say has to be a swear.. Once in a while, its fine.. but you sometimes get people who can't speak without swearing, and I really don't want to hear that..

Its not like I go around swearing.. only when people aren't around

I pay for the server box, so I consider it mine. I dont tolerate racial or sexual slurs. I dont mind a swear word here and there, but I wont put up with every other word being a cuss word. Dont like it? Go play somewhere else.

I never cease to wonder at players who think they have the right to complain at server admins.

The reality is really hard and fast. There is no real rule but the server ops. They don't answer to a higher authority and they and pretty much do as they please. No complaining on the forums will cause the dev team or anyone else to slap them into shape.

Deal with the fact that if you don't like the server you happen to be using(at someone else's expense of both time and money) you can A) go someplace else, or B) build your own server(which is really a variant on option A.)

Perhaps you all overlooked the word discussion . Incase you didn't notice the grunts from Half-Life commonly say words such as "D---,B------,A--" and a few others (I'm not cracked out on Half-Life so I really don't know them all.) I also understand the racial slurs part.... because they really are stupid and for stupid people. (Eventually those people are going to figure out that N----- means a stupid person, not a black.) But nobody has really discussed it without bias. You all cannot act like you've never cussed before. I don't do it often, infact almost never. So if I didn't ever do so, how could this be concidered a complaint. It isn't! It's a discussion and I don't expect Unknown Worlds to take any action. So guys, please take the discussion forums as what they are.

We are not acting, at the lease I am not, like we haven't done it before. I have done it and I am still doing it. The point is that some people simply over do it. Just like it was said before, here and there is fine, but every 3rd word. Come on now, for the first min or two is fun/fine, but eventually it gets annoying and disgusting pretty fast.

Ok, I understand your outlook on this. But I wish to give you mine... First of all I have purchased a server from a little known company and I treat the server as my own personal property. If you look at the supreme court rulings, freedom of speech does not extend upon private property. This means I am LEGALLY allowed to censer whatever words I want through the server.

Also, I own the server because I enjoy playing and scripting for AMX mod. Hearing constant insults and curse words is not the type of environment thats fun to me. Some words are instant bans in our server, and my clan completely agrees. Just because you have the ability to curse, does not make you mature. Any1 can curse, few can use it appropriately.

Yes, I curse every now and then, and I don't mind occasional curses, but there is such things as excess. And being myself, a girl gamer, doesn't help. Before I owned this server, I remember constantly being harrassed by the b and c words. Now, I know I am a b.... but I hate the word c...

What I would suggest, is going to a mall and screaming out these words at people, and see the reaction you get. It won't be purty like me...

    Thanks for your time,
    ~Tyrant~

BTW, before any1 starts saying gaming girls aren't purty, my pic is on the clan site... All Gone Wrong Site

haa, I like that. A good way to demonstrate similarities between public places, be it on-line or off-life, and that in both places people will have the same reaction to vulgar behavior.
