If you dont know, then read on, if you do, then read below.

Natural Craft is an attempt to bring elements of Natural Selection to Warcraft. This is done by modifying the existing units and spells to come more in line with what Natural Selections gameplay has to offer.

Currently Natural Craft is in it's first ever release. Yep. After 6 months of dedicated lack of work and inspiration I've finally got something to show for the 8 - 16 hours of work that I've put into this. Namely, a bunch of modified units and buildings that in all probability will not work very well in multiplayer and will be extremely buggy.

Natural Craft does not have every feature I'm afraid. Primal scream, umbra, spores, bile, acid rocket etc cant be included because of the following reasons:

1. I dont know how to implement them
2. If I try, it causes Warcraft to crash
3. It just plain dont work
4. I'm just too crap to figure it out

Now, onto the game!

Currently, I've got Medpacks and Catalyst Packs working. You select it from the Command Console (Human Town Hall) to use it on your troops. They cost nothing at the moment. Catalyst wont autocast for some reason, I've been looking into it but if I knew what was wrong I would have fixed it by now.

Most abilities for aliens cannot be included in game. There are several good reasons for this.

For example, when I tried to include Acid Rocket for the fade, it just plain didnt work. The fade will always close in for melee attack. When I tried to include Primal Scream for lerk, I modified bloodlust to be an area of effect ability/buff, however, the game would crash whenever it was activated leading to it's removal.

Onos stomp was also bugged, it just plain didnt work, as did devour. My guess is that it's because I've used the abomination model, or that it's my ineptitude in using the editor impeding my progress yet again.

In any case, you've seen me write enough. You can see it for yourself as I'm including a zip to this post, with unit data and a test map file.

I'm relying on community feedback to help refine this into something a bit more polished then what it is now, and the more help I get the less work I have to do and get back to my studies <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Your free to download and use the units/map as you see fit. You can modify the units as you see fit and if you can produce something a lot better then what I've come up with then I tip my hat off to you.

If there are any gameplay bugs, tactical exploits, teh unbalncez0r etc, tell me here and how best you think you can fix it. Like it or not this needs fixing and polishing more then any project I've worked on in the past.

Do you have a customized ability that would fit in? Tell me! I still very much wish to get spores or bile bomb in good working order and if you've found a way to get it working then by all means send it over for inclusion and testing ASAP.

    Don't feel too bad, you've gotten much farther than I ever would. Of course, I wouldn't even know where to start so....

    Only 1 question: Does it matter which Warcraft version you have? (1,2, or 3?)

    I guess I should have included that earlier, you need Warcraft 3 with The Frozen Throne Expansion pack. This is due to several abilities used that arent available in the original WC3 (such as Touch of Blight and blink).

    By the way, the included map is a test map and is by no means a playable multiplayer map. My map making skills are far too low calibre to be playable let alone enjoyable.

    Dont talk yourself down, youv actualy done something nobody else has. You put in effort and something has come out in the end, its a first realese thus not much is in. Look at the first realese of NS its almost unrecodnisable.

    Uhm, not much of a wc3 player, but wouldn't the komodo whatever unit look better as an onos and the devour should work with it innit. At least I remember a unit having the ability to devour.

    Make primal scream an aura effect. If possible, make it only activate at lvl 3 town hall. Actually, simply make it a researchable upgrade available at lvl 3.

    Stomp is already in the game. Take the "impale" attack of the Crypt lord and remove the damage and leave the stun. Devour exists for the Kodo beast; it shouldn't give you any problems.

    For the Fade, give it a mana pool and make Acid Rocket a spell. To simulate energy requirements, jack the mana regen up to a massive degree.

    (although I enjoyed playing it) so I didn't see the
    point in buying Frozen Throne.

    Is there no way to install Natural-Craft for just WarCraft 3?

    For devour, make sure the unit you're giving the devour abilit to also has devour cargo. That might be why it isnt working.

    Make primal scream just like warcry or something (Forgot name) where it increases damage by percent. Also lock your map (Also keep backup one the non locked one) well keep the one your hosting in public games locked and save the one your working on not locked. Bad things happen to good maps if they're not locked. Use starcraft marine models for some of the marines. Try using city for back ground.

    I'm pretty sure I can make it compatible with RoC by changing the touch of blight healing effect for gorges/DC's/Hives to the elven healing, the only disadvantage would be that it wouldnt be able to heal mulptiple targets at once.

    The .w3u file is the file that contains unit data. It's not necessary to run the map, but you will want to import it into any new maps you wish to make for Natural Craft unless you want to manually set all the unit fields and such.

    The Kodo beast is an excellent idea, I'll work on it when I can find time between assignments.

    The space marine is also a great idea, but aesthetics can wait until later.

    For the next version I plan on having town hall upgrades allow different life forms for the Kharaa.

    So, your run of the mill "Hive" (great hall) will have the default life forms (Fade, onos, lerk, gorge, skulk). The Level 2 Hive (stronghold) will have the most common singular upgrades, such as regen onos, celerity skulk/lerk etc, while the level 3 hive (Fortress) will contain the most common dual upgrads (Regen/Celerity onos, Carapace/Celerity skulk, etc etc).

    As of the moment, res nodes can be built anywhere, any time. Mining is a manual process, until I can figure out a way to get it to be automatic it's probably going to be a pain in the neck to get resources. To prevent resource tower spamming, I've made them use up 5 food a piece and have made the only food giving structures (CC and Hive) expensive. This should prevent CC/Hive spamming for high food limits and res tower spamming to afford high cost units too soon. I've still got to figure out how to institute a bounty for successful kills (RFK).

    Heroes will come later once I've resolved a majority of the units. Though I do intend to include a Crown Of Flayra (+10 to all abilities <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->).

    If anyone can figure out how to get phase gates working I'd be glad to hear it. The way gates use a kind of trigger system to work I think and the trigger system is beyond my grasp at the moment, as is the region system.

    Ryo, those are some great ideas.

    Idea for alien attacks: Make 1st 2nd and 3rd hive abilites into spells (that target only Self). The spells shouldn't do anything, they should just be dummies. Then, you make a unit type for each weapon. Then, set up triggers to replace a unit when the ability is used. Something along the lines of:

    Events-
    Generic Unit Event- Unit begins casting an ability

    Conditions-
    Ability Comparison- (Event Response- Ability being Cast) equal to Acid Rocket

    Actions-
    Unit-Replace Replace Triggering Unit with (Fade <acid>) using The Old Unit's Relative Life and Mana.

    Then, have the unit Fade (with <acid> as the editor suffix) have only an attack like Acid Rocket.

    You could also set up triggers so that every attack drains some mana, that way mana mimics energy.


    Edit: I'm not sure if this would work for Phase Gates, but, you could set up a trigger that runs when a unit targets an object (Condition- Target of issued order is unit-Phase Gate), and make it check to see if the triggering unit is a certain distance from a phase gate, then give it an action of Unit-Move (Instantly) to position of Unit- Random Unit in Unit Group (Unit Group- Units of Type (Phase Gate)) with an offset of (10.000,10.000), or so.

    Thinking about it umbra could be like a healing ward or a ward that has that one aura that increases armor. And spores the lerk would put down a ward or something with disease effect. Both would have a time limt on amount of time it stays there.

    Maybe:
    Unit ward Abilitys "That one aura that gives armor" .
    I don't know. I would map (Like starcraft) but I can't host games but even if I port forward or something it sometimes acts weird.

    Meh, the only time I use maps I make is at the local LAN center. I upload the map to my MSN group (aptly named "My Junk), download it there, and load it on the other computers my friends are using.

    Me and one of my friends tried to do something simular to this around January, but we gave up, we just didn't have the patience. If you want I can try and get the old map file (was just one map) and send it to you or I can also help you out with some triggers or custom stuff. I'm no expert, but I know what I'm doing, and, if not, I can get my friend to help. <-- just an offer, up to you if you want to take it or not. PM me please though, I don't check this forum area much so I might miss it.
