Can't get it working
Firstly, before I get started, let me just answer the question "Why aren't you running on Steam?". Simple. I can't. My computer at home with NS installed has no internet connection and in fact my only internet connection is at university. (Which means I have to download everything on to my flash drive, but that's another story). Besides, I have NS for mapping purposes only.

I've finally downloaded NS v3 (beta-1) - yet, when I try to run the installer, it gives me "STEAM with 3rd party mod support not installed" and terminates. (Running Half-Life retail v1.1.1.0). So, how can I work around this?

You shouldn't be able to. Steam supports offline mode though - so provided you can get all the files, you should be able to run it just fine.

Install it at the university and move the nsp directory with your flashdrive...

    gaz for the win.

    Basic Run down:
The first installer (beta 1) REQUIRES a Steam version of HL (there is no work around).
Once you have installed it via steam, you can simply move the NSP folder anywhere you want.

so, either convince some poor shmo to send you the nsp folder, or do as GAZ said.

Even better - I found a friend who plays CS regularly on Steam, so I did it at his place. (And hopefully I converted him to NS while I was there )
