Ya, WTH is that?!? CS has always been about copying the realistic features of its weaponary to the tee, how the heck did that slip through?

I downloaded and watched a video of CS:S... it's interesting. Normal gameplay for CS, everything is EXACTLY THE SAME.

The flashbangs don't seem to be more/less effective
The guns still do the same thing

Basically, it's going "Look at all these pretty physics! You can shoot barrels at things, you have lovely reflecting tiles [that look worse than if you hadn't had them], you have a lot of pretty objects to hide behind, cool effects, blah blah blah" But nobody uses them. EVER.

And the maps.. it looks like a major part of the "cool looking maps" is just a few good models, and nice mapping work with good textures. Gah.

Grrr, I hate this. They're not gonna rip up the gameplay of the most popular muliplayer game of all time. PERIOD. If they belived that the new physics and objects they are adding to the game would be detrimental to core CS gameplay in any way, they would promptly rip them out and leave CS:S as a graphical update only. Don't expect a new game here, this is a major face lift, but the same old game we're talking about.
  • eedioteediot Join Date: 2003-02-24 Member: 13903Members
Wait. What do you hate? My dismissal of CS:S as a significant game because it got coated with mascara? I don't like the gameplay. That's what I'm saying.

CS:S is just an example of a game ported to the source engine, and supposedly showing how "easy" it is. All I'm saying is that I'm disappointed with all that the Source engine port means. It's somewhat prettier. That's it. I'm disappointed that they didn't take the chance to implement more changes. I know it wasn't supposed to be, but I'm still disappointed with the lost opportunity.

It's not a major face lift, by the way. It's just a little more detailed.

I played it at Netplay, a lan centre in the UK.

It was pretty damn great. The models and what not were amazing and just gives me that urge to buy HL2.

Of course, if you buy CS:CZ, you can play it in the comfort of your own home \0/

Fair enough. All I'm saying is that you either hate CS or you like CS, don't expect CS:S to be some magical factor that somehow fixes the things you hate about the older version. Some people will always be disatisfied no matter what direction the game goes, but the fact is, the numbers show valve loud and clear that people aren't itching for massive changes to the game CS in general.

The sourse engine might be a nifty game engine, but it seems as if some people have the impression that its capable of copying real life to the tee. This is obviously not the case, we are getting a nice open ended game engine here, not some magical piece of code that can make everything on it mimic real life perfectly, or make everything it touches fun.

[edit] And CZ was "a little more detailed", in comparison CS:S IS a major facelift. Sure it isn't DOOM2 compared to DOOM3, but it isn't really a sequal either.

He means in real-life, most buildings are simple structures, especially in the Middle East. Look at the screens; there's complex architecture for the temple/palace in the centre, and simpler architecture for the houses. Like it should be, it makes sense.

So what happens when that pitifully weak HE (yea right) grenade goes off under someone's feet? Do they just stand there and shake a little like in CS or do they fly into the air?

    Fly into the air.

And guys, you CANNOT(I repeat, CAN FREAKING NOT) have a physics implementation into a multiplayer game without making it be the whole PURPOSE of the game, because eventually people will know exactly what does what does what, and stop doing anything else.

Let me rephrase that: What happens when a HE grenade goes off under someone's feet but they aren't killed by it?
  • TenSixTenSix Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7932Members
It looks good, but alot more 'meh' then I thought it would. Not because of the HL2 engine, but Dust just isn't a very complex map in terms of architecture. It was made for the HL engine, and essentially ported to the HL2 engine looking much the same.

um, they take damage like normal, but the screen gets all messy and you hear a big whining sound like from a flashbang to dissilusion you, so yeah... no flying or anything until theyre dead <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

coolest thing tho with the ragdoll, is when the terrorists plant the bomb, and theres tons of bodies at the bomb site, when the bomb goes off everyone goes flying xD really great.
