How To Tell If It Really Is Flayra In Game.

I was in a game today and there was a player named Flayra in the server. I was skeptical and confronted the player with the fact that he had no icon next to his name. His response was that some servers were down and that the icon wasn't showing for that reason. Any help here?

I doubt he plays on pubs often. when he's not busy making and testing the game in beta servers and stuff I'm sure he doesn't go pub it up

I have seen the Real Flayra play <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /> . In response to your question, the icon servers, I don't think, have ever been down outside the closed betas.

Some servers disable icons. The only way to know if it is really Flayra is to know his real STEAM_ID.

the auth servers have gone done every so often (hehe, those people in the closed 3.0 beta will remember the wonders of being stuck in the RR)

As for if it was Flayra, probably not.

Typically, internet celebs don't care whether you think they're them or not. So if someone does care that you think they're who they claim to be, it's a fair bet they aren't. Besides, it's really unimportant.

It is charlie cleveland (I hate that city, but that is besides the point)

and I have played NS with him as Flayra (as a CM in the beta), And I know people have played with him on some of the more established servers (as Flayra)

Also, I assume that he has other nicks he uses (as well as Authing) when he just wants to see what is going on.

This happens to me on WC3. When I decided to Random Team with other people, they're like "POSER!!!!" "OMG UR NOT TEH REEL DEEL!" and they spam me to prove that I'm really me. It gets old and I don't even bother to show every single person that I'm me.

Thusly, it's impossible to hack an icon without changing the server files and causing a md5sum inconsistancy, and there is no reason why an icon would not appear. Paticularly because "Some server is down". What if you put "auth" into the console so authentication is off? Won't that stop any icons from showing?

Could have been him, could have been someone else. It doesn't really matter.

On another note, people can use his dev icon as well through a metamod plugin. Quite lame but people do it.

Servers can be set not to show the icon.
Aren't the icons stored on some other server? When you register for Constellation ever server in the world does not download an update... <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' />
