Help For A 56ker

<div class="IPBDescription">I must play NS again</div> Well, I had played NS sence the days of 1.04, and played until roughly the begining of beta 3. Now, a few months ago I moved with my family out into the country. Now it's great and all, the school is more acepting, and we have a 43.5 acre plot of land to do what the hell ever with. I've been reading the boards every now and then, just for fun.

The problem with all this, however, is that the only high speed interenet that we can access is satelite. We really don't have enough money to get everything needed for it yet, so were stuck with a crappy piece of 56k, which on a rare acasion(sp?) will give us 36k or so.

With that said, what can I do to be able to play online NS again? I need to know everything I'd need to do to be able to play, after installing all the patches and what not. Help would really be appretiated, as I've even begin to miss combat maps. Thanks in advance!

    What you're probably looking for is connection tweaks:

    This will help, but you're still going to get really bad pings until you get off dialup.

    Thanks, I'll bookmark it and as soon as I get NS installed, I'll see if they'll help. Also, do you have any server recomendations for someone with 56k?

    There is no such thing as a "56k" specific servers. You'd want to play on the server that is closest to you (ie. the server with the lowest ping.)

    Well, I got NS installed and everything, but I can't even get into any servers. It goes through 4 retries, then tell me I was unable to connect. Any tips? Also, a link to the best current bots for marines woulkd be cool, too. I already have which bot for the aliens.

    I did try joining the lowest ping servers, most of the time they are around 1k, though...

    Well, you are basically stuck. Make sure though you have the best modem possible. Not all modems are created equal, and you have tweaked everything possible.
