Change Loading Music

<div class="IPBDescription">That's what i search...</div> Hi there...

I've found some sounds in the NSP path... but i can't find the loading musics, because playing a lot of NS could be boring if i can't change some musics ^^ (even if they're good but... well...) So i want to change the music while i'm joining a server.

Does somebody know where they are ?

Thanks in advance <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    ..\Steam\SteamApps\email@provider.net\half-life\nsp\media\gamestartup.mp3

    <i>*edit*</i> and to change the in-game music just add your favorite mp3 files to

    ..\Steam\SteamApps\email@provider.net\half-life\nsp\music\

    the game plays randomly picked songs from that directory.

    if your looking for a good replacement, go to lancers reactor, and look for the omega battle music.
    thats prolly the best music in FL

    Sorry to double post... but i didn't succeed in replacing the loading music...

    I can replace the musics just at the beginning of the game, but not the one while i'm connecting to a server, that one that have changed with the versions of NS...

    If someone knows that...

    I always thought that music was server side, not client side?

    If there's music playing, such as on a server with annoying background music, it will continue to play until the next level is loaded.

    One quirk I found was that during the initial startup (and subsequent loads), NS will play a track from a CD inserted in your primary CD drive. Surprised the hell out of me the first time to start up NS, and hear some Disturbed start blasting over the speakers. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    There is music that plays when the server is loading, it starts of kind of slow then speeds up, its not bad to listen to. If you have a fast computer then by the time your NS loads you wont hear the music speed up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I cant find a way to change it so id say its a steam or server side thing because it has changed a few times.

    Yeah, seems to be somewhat random for me to.

    If the music is client side, is it possible the server to download on your box (similar to dling models and sprites) a particular audio file to play while connecting and in the lobby? For example, if I was a server admin, and I want people to listen to particular song while connecting or in the lobby, I can have the server download the audio to the client’s box.

    Asking because when I connect to the Richnet.tv server, it plays one music while I am connecting then it switches when I enter the lobby, but the moment I pick a team, the music stops. And it isn’t NS music, it's techno.

    ===

    I also think that it is possible for the music to be server side as well, and simply stream it from there, because the music played is not something I have on my HDs, and I can't find anything like it in the NSP folder

    The loading music is actually located in the media folder, called the <i>gamestartup.mp3</i>

    You can change this music by overwriting it with the music of your choice, provided u replace it with the exact filename, and making it 'read only'. The 'read-only' part doesnt really apply to Ns, but i think it does for the official valve games.

    When u load up the game, this track will play, provided bgm_volume is <b>1</b>. When u connect to any server, this track continues to play as long as you see the yellow status bar until u enter the server.

    You can tweak the track fade time by playing around with mp3fadetime X where X is the amount of secs you want the track to play before fading out. Default is kinda short, i made mine 20.0 as thats the time the level loads for me.

    Hope this helps.

    it defiantly does, but what about when the sound files are the default ones and the music played is techno is that something streams from the server

    Thanks !

    I've tried to rename it gamestartup.mp3 with the Read Only attribute, but it doesn't play music anymore while it's loading...

    How do i set bgm_volume to 1 ? In my console menu ?

    Sorry to ask noob questions <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> ^^

    <b>Try this</b>:
    Rename "ns_titlescreen" in nsp/music
  • GDVLGDVL Join Date: 2004-02-23 Member: 26817Members
    I've already rename it "ns_titlescreen.mp3", but it still doesn't work...

    Well, that's right that the joining-to-server music is server side...

    I wonder why ? It can slow the time to join a server, doesn't it ?

    It could be better if we can change it ourselves... other than in our own server of course ^^.

    Well, i'll stay on this topic until an answer is given... thanks again to all of you ^^

    That is indeed strange.

    You did everything correctly.

    Check that mp3volume is <b>1.0</b>.

    Also check bgmvolume is <b>1.0</b>.

    Yes, the above pertains to the console. just type it out and steam shd show the commands easily in a drop down menu.

    p.s i know this as i have the official Doom3 theme as my gamestartup music <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    p.s.s So are all my other HL mods...custom gamestartups except for CZ.

    Np, just remember this isnt isolated to NS alone, but to all MODs that is steamed.

    Have fun modding gamestartups! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    As far as I know, this is an old Half-Life issue stemming from how the in-game single-player music player was designed. I had the same issue in Firearms. One minute, I'm blowing away members of the Satan-worshiping Blue Team; the next, Jurassic 5 is blaring out of my headphones. It was all rather surreal.
