well, this wont be used because the artist of the concept doesnt like the style(mostly the grip grooves), and he asked me to post it here to see if people liked it. well, here it is.

The only real problems i have are:

1. no vents on top

2. side vents aren't attractively done

3. grip doesn't look comfortable, and isn't practical

I like the model, however, because :

1. good proportions

2. ejection port is done

3. good length on stock

what does everyone else think. I think i'm choosing between this model and mephmage's.

tip on keeping proportions: use the ref pic as baclground ALWAYS. that is the best way to keep proportions. dont try to do it by looking at it in another window because you're prone to screwing up %99 of the time

EDIT: also, i have the regular grip done in another file, is all a matter of exporting/importing the missing parts, and it will be done

EDIT2: just noticed there is a cylinder on the back sight..... wonder why... anyway, it wont be there, dont worry

would you say it looks better with a plane old-fashoned grip or with the grip it currently has?

I think the rubberized part should be slightly RAISED rather than indented. It supposed to be rubberized, you know?

i can't tell the lighting is bad. ill work up a drawing about the vents on the cover. they're ugly right now.

i quite like the firts 1 tho i think fox wants it the way his con shows
• DamDSxDamDSx Join Date: 2004-08-10 Member: 30506Members
yeah, i know he does. but personally im tired of seeing the same guns over and over again. the reason i did the clip like that is becaue: 10 it looks somwhat futuristic, the game is futuristic, it fits NS PERFECTLY. 2) the regular grip is too plain, and some cool grooves wouldnt hurt it.

but well, is his choice, if he wants the old plain grip, thats fine with me.

The handle will be given the curves by the skinner.. they didn't have to be modeled.

i think venting like this looks better--> what do you think?

• JimJim Join Date: 2002-11-26 Member: 9989Members
It looks nice, if a little heavy on the polys

thanks for the feedback guys.

i doublt i'll finish it due to the fact that it wont be used.
it is very high poly because of all te grooves on the slide and the grip. i tried to keep the poly count to a minimum.

why wouldn't it be used? the model looks great. I think you should fix the vents on the cover though/
• DamDSxDamDSx Join Date: 2004-08-10 Member: 30506Members
ok, fixed the vents, added lam and i modified the stock a little bit to look more realistic.

gorgeous. pure brilliance. i love it. LOVE it. is it done? we ready for skin and anims?

hooold on.. what about the vent on the top? didn't you think that was cool? a veont on top would look cool in game. It's up to you though.
• DamDSxDamDSx Join Date: 2004-08-10 Member: 30506Members
how would you like the vent to be done? and yes, it is finished

you've done an excellent job. What do you think the vetn should look like? I'll toy with a few ideas. gimme some ideas.

i was thinking something like this-->
• DamDSxDamDSx Join Date: 2004-08-10 Member: 30506Members
what are the black things?

cuts in the barrel same as the one on your model. they just get smaller and smaller. I was think the vent and stuff would be much like this, a glock18c
• DamDSxDamDSx Join Date: 2004-08-10 Member: 30506Members
the only problem is....... the barrel is covered by the slide. there is no way the barrel could be showing in that place because of the slide
• DamDSxDamDSx Join Date: 2004-08-10 Member: 30506Members
hmmmm ok i'll give that a try
• Foxtrot_UniformFoxtrot_Uniform Join Date: 2003-06-12 Member: 17328Members
i know. remember when you asked for the drawing without the slide? i made a big cut in the top of it. You never modeled it like that though. I think it will look sweet when it's all said and done.

well to do that i would have to move the barrel up, otherwise it will look like a HUGE hole in the slide and it wont look good.

i was just messing around with it and it will add a LOT of polys to the model, yet it wont really be seen do to the angle the gun will be held you wont be able to see inside that vent. it sure adds more detail to the gun but it wont be seen at all(i mean the things on the barrel)

Look here, DamDSx. Click the image to see more images. Some of them show the kind of barrels Foxtrot's talking about.

Also look here for details of that kind of barrel. Not exactly the same as a Glock, but the idea is the same. The vents are elevated. The barrel doesn't have to move.

Nor does it have to be a lot of polies. The elevation can be as simple as the one on the barrel on the SVI I released long ago, in another age. The vents can be simply textured and don't need to be modeled.

The SVI's original download's still available. Don't know if Jim's version with NS arms is. If anyone still wants it, it'll have to be updated by someone other than me. I haven't done any of this in a while.

no that is not what he means. there is a hole in the slide, and the barrel is showing. those vents he's talking about are ON the barrel, not on the slide.
• Wolf_KahlerWolf_Kahler Join Date: 2002-11-29 Member: 10252Members
Did you look at this at all? The vents here are in the barrel. While my SVI does not have the vents, the slide is modified to fit smoothly around the barrel protrusion that normally has the vents.

yes i did, but his concept doesnt have an elevation. thanks for the help though

We need someone to mesh the monster so we can skin it.
