Babbler Bugs

4 babblers vs a building, building wins
As a gorge I came across a marine resource node. Since it would take forever to acid spit the thing to death I sicked a bunch of babblers on it. They all charged the node and exploded after 15 seconds, but they didn't do any damage! Not from biting or exploding or anything. Do the babblers have bugs, or was this just a fluke?

Even if the babblers act a little strangely (ie, repeatedly bumping into the wall for 10 seconds while trying to get around the corner) it's one of my favorite abilities. Its main purpose seems to be as a getaway tool for a gorge under fire, but it's tons of fun to unload a constant stream of them at an enemy base.

Yeah, my experience with them has proven to be ineffective as an offense. Just distractions.

They are perfect anti-heavy weapon guy tools. People are idjits I tell you! They don't know how to use Umbra and Babblers in conjunction and then scream to their big oozing hive mommy about how hard it is to win as the bugs.

Get 2-3 Gorges with adrenaline lobbing squabblers into their base simultaneously. Watch them get overrun and have to fight off all of these things while the REAL troops like a Fade or Onos come charging in. Either they get out of dodge and die by ignoring the Squabblers, or they fight the squabblers and get squashed by the Onos.

My favorite was the flying Fade attack to get over the turrets which are busy hammering the squabblers.

Oh - I have killed buildings and turrest with them. They explode with the force of a Fade's rocket, so 10 or so can easily take out a turret - all you need to do is destract it. Hint - turrets have a specific targeting priority.

You'z wimps have been playing CS and Quake3 for too long. Tactics and teamwork make it a very fair game if FF is on(tournament mode). Yes, the tactics are different. Go figure.

I say, goddamit, if a Gorge has worked his spikey little butt off all round to get three hives running, he should have a more powerful attack. IMHO, the Babblers should either A) do more damage, B) take more damage before bursting like helium balloons in front of bullets, or C) Last longer before blowing up.

But thats just me. I'm insane. Hence: LERKS ROOL!

Not really, Lazer. If you want a kickass third hive attack, -don't go gorge- The babblers aren't meant to whipe out lots of marines, they are more of a distraction. There are plenty of other 3rd hive attacks that inflict massive damage (bile bomb, spores, xenocide, anything that is onos). It's not like you're stuck as a gorge either. If you have 3 hives, you don't really need anymore gorges. If anything, babblers work as an effective distraction when a gorge is trying to run away from a marine, and for causing turmoil whilst the rest of the alien team is attacking the marine base. No more, no less.

The babbler strength is fine. I would like to see an increase in the babbler AI, though. Just enough so they don't try to run straight through a wall towards their targets.
