Everyone keeps talking about the graphics, but the sound is what makes this game. It has some of the creepiest atmospheric sounds ever. That and the fact that hardly any of us have the graphic cards to run this at ultra high I think people shoudl stop saying "Its just graphics".

I admit that having a seperate flashlight did add to the atmosphere of the game. But damnit, it was just plain unrealistic.
Take Ripley in Aliens. She's about to head into an infested nest of aliens, where lighting is questionable and the enemy is dangerous. What does she do? She grabs a heap of big guns, some ammo, and tapes a flash light to her gun. It just makes sense to do that.
Compare that to Doom 3. I'm walking through a base being invaded by hellspawn. I grab a heap of big guns, some ammo, but despite the lighting being almost non-existant I decide to keep my flashlight seperate. Which makes absolutely no sense.
We're dealing with a large base that has constant power problems. The manual says that flashlights are standard issue as a result. You have a grand total of 9 guns in the game, and it boggles the mind that you would be unable to find 9 flashlights. A similar situation with duct-tape; I don't care if the game is set 150 years in the future: we'll still be using duct-tape or a duct-tape like product because it's so darn useful!
Gameplay may be > realism, but I thought it just made no sense to have the flashlight seperate.

Exactly Hibame, there are already people editing the game to add new experiences and the game isn't even released yet for alot of the world. What do you expect? It will take time for the modding scene to produce decent output, in the meantime this goes to show that the game has already got a modding scene, pretty good going really.
Actually you having nightvision wouldn't make sense AT ALL considering you seem to be the only marine in mars city who doesnt have a helmet. Who knows what crazy gizmos are in those things. Remember you were just dropped in the sublevels to find a lost person, they gave you a pistol a flashlight and an armor vest. I dont think they would deck you out in full combat gear with infra red super cool predator vision goggles that can aim for you and sing opera when all you're doing is looking for a guy in a basement.
And a tac light... Why have a tac light when you're on a non-violent mission? You're not supposed to shoot the guy, and no one predicted Hell would take over Mars, so a tac light at that point was redundant.

the fact you cant change weapons during a reload, the single most annoying thing ever in combat.
your clip runs out mid battle, and instantly you want to whip out that shotty to finish the job, but noooooo, reload cannot be interupted. grrrrrrrrr.
tell that to the military and law enforcement of the world. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

This is what pisses me off so much. I can sit in a pitch black room crouched and a grunt walks right in and puts a load of buckshot into me instantly. Their accuracy is never a question in the dark, and that sucks.
All those arguing for realism are playing the wrong game "the lack of realism in this game means I have to put my torch away so I can shoot the <i>demons from hell</i>".

everything looks like plastic. Is the game really worth it?
Go look for reviews. I don't think it's recieved a score less than 9/10 or 90% yet.
Gamepro - 80%
Gamespot - 85%
FiringSquad - 85%
IGN - 89%
Then on the other hand...
GamePro 4/5
Insider Gamer Online 9/10
My Guy Games 10/10
... etc etc<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Sorry to be pedantic Esuna but 4/5 <b>is</b> 80% <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Had to point it out, made me chuckle.

Exactly Hibame, there are already people editing the game to add new experiences and the game isn't even released yet for alot of the world. What do you expect? It will take time for the modding scene to produce decent output, in the meantime this goes to show that the game has already got a modding scene, pretty good going really.
And a tac light... Why have a tac light when you're on a non-violent mission? You're not supposed to shoot the guy, and no one predicted Hell would take over Mars, so a tac light at that point was redundant.

You'd think you could scavenge a helmet off one of the zombie marines you shoot. They seem to have night vision, or at least something that makes some of the visors glow red. Also, you can't pick up any of their riot shields.
