I'm guessing you mean 'neat places you can jump to as a marine' since jumping anywhere as alien is sort of unimpressive. When you can climb walls, yelling 'look, I got on top of the pipe on the ceiling!' isn't going to impress people.

And anyone who's ever played a scrim can probably tell you most of the goofy places to jump to on a map. There's nothing else to do while you're waiting for both teams to ready up than to find silly jumps and practice them. I could mention a few, but I don't have any nifty screenshots or demos to show off, so I'll let someone else handle it.

The first one that comes to mind is on top of the pipes in Generator on ns_caged.

Me, Standard and Mercior are actually helping Fana (of os) make a trickjumping movie. We have about 100 different jumps right now I think and the majority are marines

Bob, well off course you can make impressive trickjumps as a skulk!
Wallwalking is of course cheating, but you can make some nifty jumps with bhoping

I'll just tell you.

Face the hive cavity. To the right is a slanted wall. Run up and on top of that. Turn around 180 degrees. You'll see a pipe there. Jump onto it. From there you can walk up another pathway to a higher pipe.

You can do the same on the other side of the room as well. Thats a bit higher though. You need to circle-jump as a Marine to get up there.

Well, off the top of my head...

Top of the 'engine' in port engine on nancy (not too tough) - jump on the little red light on the RT end, jump on top, push up and to one side (can't fit through if you go straight) and then walk along the slanted side and up top.

Up on the structure on the far side of stab monitoring on caged (opposite the RT, to the left of the ladder) - from the railing near the ladder coming from MS, strafe jump onto the pipes across from you. Then circle jump around the structure that will be in front of you, towards gen hive. Aliens hardly ever think to look up here...

Also in stab monitoring (not really a trick jump, but useful) If you jump from the high platform that leads over and stops above the rt and land on the bottom edge of the slanted structure (the bit you have to circle jump around in the last jump) you'll slide down to the floor without taking damage. You can also strafe jump to the ladder, but this is trickier, since you have a tendancy to bang your head on the architecture up top and fall like a rock.

ALSO in caged, in purification, it's possible to climb up the support beams near the RT. No real jumping involved, but it's fun to push up there and just hang out waiting for aliens to come by. Aliens almost never expect to be ambushed from above!

That's the short list, I'm sure there's more, but I'm supposed to be pretending to work right now.

Just thought of another useful (though not very spectacular) jump. You can jump down the elevator from MS to maint corridor in hera without taking damage. Get up against the left or right wall (elevator down, obviously) and jump straight ahead, holding forwards. You'll land on the little downslanted architecture, slide down, and end up on the rail of the elevator platform. You don't take damage AND you don't make any noise going down this way. Very useful. Anyone know any other trick jumps that are actually useful to get through areas faster or without taking damge?

In ns_metal, I've been able to get on top of the crates as marine in marine start. Theres a little thing sticking out of the wall between the crates and the CC. You can use it.

In ns_caged, I've gotten into the vent that goes from purification to vent by jumping on and pushing up those pointy things.

Theres others that I can't remember since I haven't played NS in so long. I'll take some demos if I'm really bored one day.

On Tanith, it is possible to get onto the pipes above the Chemical Transport Room. Demo here.

Nice one a Cilvilian (SP) I'll watch it now, see if it gets rid of this damn headache i've had all day.

But in that case, I don't suggest trying it; it'll only worsen your headache. Took me many tries to get it right (as you might notice from my low amount of health).

I've only ever made the chem transport jump once. So hard :\ Other ones to try are:

-comp core, between the two railings either side of the ramp
-topographical, between the railings
-Reactor room, from the raised area over the water

Also, if you've got the help of one (note it's super easy with more than one so it doesn't count) buddy try getting onto the weird things on the roof of cargo on ns_tanith. They're like hanging platforms. Not quite a trick jump but still pretty neat and requires good timing etc etc. I'll see if i can cook up a demo of me doing them.

Mostly through circle strafe jumping (also known as gliding).

this isnt really a 'trick' jump, but it saves alot of time for rines, and you can even kill a gorgie or lerk cause they wont suspect it.

In the subsector hive, on either side of the reznode, jump on the side railing in the middle next to the wall, then you can circlejump onto the higher railing and onto the raise ground instead of running out of the from of the hive and around either side.

ns_eclipse from the top of triad ladder(note not the ladder itself just that area) to the little ledge above the triad rt... as a marine without catpacks :s (caution: not easy)

another nice one is in sewer hive on ns_caged, from the little raised corridor thing to the light and then to the bar next to the light.

If there was an easy way to transform a series of demos into one movie, I would make it...

I. Love. Trickjumps. It's just so interesting to get to places that dont seem possible to get to at first, or going over things that dont seem possible

There are a few kinds for marines in my opinion.

Long Jumps, which basically just require good mouse movement and keyboard combonations.

Examples are...
- ns_caged: The jump onto the lights in sewer hive, or the jump into the ventilation vent from purification.
- ns_lost: (readyroom) the jump from the spectator platform to the big white block
- ns_tanith: The jump from the rail, over the water, and onto the other side in Reactor Room.
- ns_origin: (this one is easy) Lava Catwalk: Get a boost onto the top of lava catwalk, and jump over the gap beetween the two flat support things...

Then... Quick Series Jumps, which consist of going up some kind of stair-like slope keeping in mind that marines can bunnyhop when going up a distance. Just bhopping up stairs can be considered this, I think.

Examples...
There arent really any famous ones, since they arent very useful, but I know a really complicated one on caged...
- ns_caged: Lay the RT in double closest to Marine Start. Get in the little valley in between the two yellow stripes. Then, bunnyhop all the way up onto the pipes, on the railing, on the RT, and through the little window without slowing down at all, and not touching the ground for more than about a 1/4 of a second...

Then Useful jumps...For instance the one already said for ns_tanith, to get on the pipes in chemical transport. These are actually...useful...for various reasons.

The examples were pretty much most of the ones in the long jump section...

And, for the chemical transport pipe jump, there are two ways, once you get on to the supports for the pipes, you can either jump from button supports, and curve around in the air to the upper part of them, OR you can jump from the lower supports to the light on the wall over the entrence, and then to the upper supports from there. And if you dont like that light (for some reason) you can use the other broken light.

ns_caged is full of trick jumps...I love that map

My favorite is a ns_veil jump. Head to topographical and between the node/alien entrence there are two rails that are parralel to each other. The object of this jump is to jump on the right hand rail and then jump off of it to the other rail to its left.

The trick being you have to double jump (bhop) on the right rail. (Its possible because marines can still hop more then once if they hop on an elevated plane above what they started out on.

ns_tanith: jumping across the water in rr is really easy. Just glide on glide off.
chem jump is easy too.

hardest jump i would have to say is on ns_caged
jump from the top catwalk outside of generator into the hallway that leads into gen. note that this means jumping into the hallway not hitting the ladder.

I can do that as a skulk with no real trouble... as a marine, is that even possible? Doesn't seem you could get the speed up without a cat pack.

Seeing how I am still unable to get the Chem jump with any reasonable consistency, but I just loaded up Caged and accomplished the jump you mentioned on my first try (yes I landed in the hallway, not on the ladder), I'd say your comparison isn't quite accurate.

yeah really that jump is so easy. Like one of the first "trick jumps" ever. I remember doing that back in my 56K dayehs!

Anyhow...

My best trick jump... me and crime king did this awhile ago... I dunno if I still got this on demo or not.

But you know all of the stairs on ns_veil coming up from pipeline?

I managed to bhop up all the way to the top.

That was so hard to do, probably took a hour with both of us trying to make it non-stop.
• comradecomrade Join Date: 2003-11-30 Member: 23774Members
The hardest jump I can think of off hand would be the one Lagger mentioned in topo or jumping from one rail to the other in computer core, purely because of the distance.

Chemical jump is easy to make once you realise that you can do it easiest by doing a 180 turn in mid air, curving around onto the platform.
