I Have No Nerd Friends
I have no nerd friends, and this saddens me.
I've got regular friends, but they aren't versed in Sci-Fi, and their computers are pitifully underpowered. Some can't even name 5 AD&D classes.
The nerdiest friend I have doesn't even have internet access on his computer, is on the foot-ball team, and has perfectly clear skin.
I need nerdier friends! The closest thing I've ever done to a LAN party is playing at the local cyber-cafe, and its probably not the same when you're paying $3 an hour (or $10 for four hours, or $20 for 10 hours).
I need people who know how many chevrons a Stargate has (and how many are normally used), who know what happened to Dr. Sam Becket after he stepped into the Quantum Leap Accelerator, who know who Gort is, who know how Dilithium Crystals work, who know why John Chrichton can never return home, and who know how to read my binary clock!
*end venting*

Step into my office, and by office I mean pants.
And if you don't have any nerdly friends, why don't you go find your local batch of nerds,and just start talking to them or something. That might work.
Edit: Actually, I don't know who John Chrichton is, either. I was thinking of Michael Crichton(sp?), the sci-fi author.
*sings let the bodies hit the floor but with lyrics consisting of "let the pants hit the floor*
And Maby you should hold auditions or something Mantrid, put ads in the paper or something "Semi-nerds wanted to discuss matters of geekish importance"
or something along those lines.

Chevrons? I think it's 39 and 7 at a time. I rarely watch it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
Sam Becket? I know he's on the Quantum Leap show, but I don't watch it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
Gort? A character in an old movie (I thought it was Gorp at first, in which case I'd point you to old Atari games).
Dilithium Crystals? A Star Trek term, but as most Trekkie technobabble has no real world applications - aside from meaning a crystal who's matricies are formed from two bonded lithium atoms.
John Chrichton (not Michael Chrichton - woot for books)? Sounds familiar to me. Although I'm not sure from where. I'm going to guess the show Sliders...but I'm probably off (and I watched it a lot too, pffft. I should remember if that is a characters name...heh).
Woot for binary:
128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
0 1 0 0 0 1 1 1 = 71
[Okay, maybe I'm not fluent in it, but I can create any base system I want.]
Woot for tertiary (okay, maybe I made that up - base 3):
27 9 3 1
0 2 0 1 = 19
Bah, I need to study up on my math nerdiness and computer nerdiness.
I got one for any nerd tests you want to give: I want my nerds to know what fractals are and some names of some popular sets.
I seem to only be able to find people who think they're nerds and who are full fledged nerds. Aside from me, who I consider a psuedo-nerd (don't know what's up with hexadecimal, only poor knowledge in C++, no Star Trek conventions, Star Wars conventions, never used Linux, poor understanding of DOS and advanced Windows features...).
Wow, this is a pretty useless post for how long it is, isn't it?
A Stargate has 9 Chevrons, 7 of which are normally used, and are arranged like:
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
\/
> <

Dr. Sam Becket "stepped into the Quantum Leap Accelerator, and vanished. He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own, to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so Dr. Becket finds himself leaping from life-to-life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home."
-From memory.
Gort is the robot from <i>The Day the Earth Stood Still</i>.
Dilithium Crystals (in Star-Trek) work to combine matter/anti-matter streams to produce energy, and are used because, when subjected to certain harmonic frequencies, is not annihilated by anti-matter.
John Crichton is the main character of <i>Farscape</i>. He can never return home (to Earth) because he was forced to seal the wormhole leading there by collapsing a temporal bubble, to prevent the Scarans from invading.
My binary clock is layed out like this:
O = LED
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
O O O <- 8
O O O O O <- 4
O O O O O O <- 2
O O O O O O <- 1
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
H H M M S S
<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
Such that the value of each digit is equal to the sum of the LEDs carrying current.
All right here in the NS community.

Bah, I was thinking of the big wheely thing they're selected from. I suppose they have a different name (there's definately more than 9 or something is wrong with my eyes [well, more than usual] <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).
Bah, Sci-Fi channel should just run Sliders, Stargate, Futurama and MST3k <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
[well, at least - no more of that "Crossing Over" crap or half the other stuff they run now]
You don't need more nerdy friends, you need less Sci-Fi channel (...and more pr0n)! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
I'm sure i'll make plenty of nerd friends when I start my cybernetics course at university though <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

*sniff* One of my dreams is to create a recreation of medieval life around 1350 in a fairly large are that could comprise upwards of 10 small towns, a large city, numerous castles, large forests and farming area and enough people holding a similar dream willing to live in the society (perhaps with a few modifications, since some of the people would obviously be versed enough to know electricity and basic plumbing - along with archaic gunpowder - since even I can make that without any tools (aside from mortar and pestal)).
[There's also the dream of creating an underground city/large area (capable of farming its own food); Creating a Sealab type place; Being one of the first space marines to combat an alien menace (hopefully winning, heh); to have thermal goggles (probably one of my lowlier dreams)...Among others, of course.]
I've been doing Computer Science for a couple of years. There don't appear to be any nerds on my course, though.
I'm so very, very lonely.
One o them plays CS, but that's about as far as his knowledge reaches.
I was CS major, lived on the SF&F hall, and played D&D, Shadowrun, and V:TM regularly.
Now I have droped out of college, and all of my old friends (who are actualy even cooler then my college friends <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->) are no longer in The City (NYC that is).
I now work with a bunch of HS drop outs as a stock clerk.
I realy just need to start finding gaming stores and hanging out there.
And that is your best bet also. Simple find your local card&comic/hobey shop and find out if they host gaming events (many of them let you use their back room for RPGs at no cost).
And though having the entire NS comunity full of geeks is fun.....
some of us still need real human interaction <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Do you want to be my Nerdy Friend? Smile.
You are my hero.
Oh, and thats what I forgot to pack for college, my binary clock...duh!
Oh, and UltimaGecko, your thinking of the DHD (the Dial Home Device), the device used to dial out.
All my nerd friends are on the internet, I'm semi-popular during school, and I don't socialize with nerds too much... I'm also image concious and shallow...
[well, at least - no more of that "Crossing Over" crap or half the other stuff they run now] <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Plus Farscape, LEXX, and Quantum Leap.
