<div class="IPBDescription">My attempt at an ns map</div> I've been working on this map since the summer last year, learning as I go. It is now ready for playtesting.

I am not a brilliant mapper and some places on the map look pretty rubbish, but the layout is decent enough so it should be fun to play. There are some bugs that I haven't been able to iron out; as soon as I find out how to fix them I will do. There are also no particle systems as yet, but as soon as I figure them out I'll put them in.

Any feedback would be excellent, this is my first 'proper' map and it hasn't been easy.

Most of your walls are quite plain and lack quite a bit of detail. Try adding some nice walls with less 90* turns. Also your lighting is a bit bland, try adding some colour and make sure your using the env_gamma entity. Keep it up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

does the cooling furnace remind anyone else of the second-to-last room of E3M2 (the vaults of Zin) in quake?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> (you have the pillars surrounding the pit, and a shambler and scrags are in the pit...)

I like the double res. but everything could use spicing up with little details

i dont think there is a real problem in arquitecture, if its your first map, we wont ask you for a ns_hera.

I dont really like the lighting, too bland, too bright. Maybe change compile rad settings and add some -dscale 4 to 8 and -gamma 0.5 -0.9.

You got a solid layout and architecture going there. But for instance the Cooling Yard is a little to big for skulks to attack properly. Put some crates or other stuff you think should be in a cooling yard (hydragen containters mayb). And mayb add some more stuff to hide behind in them hallways.

Us skulks/gorges like to ambush or hide behind stuff when the big bad marine is emptying his rifle (not only for skulks/gorges btw... marines would be happy to hide if theres a big bad onos aproaching and all you have is a lmg <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> )
About the ligthing... I gues Blueman, Windelkronand and Some tall guy have already handled it, spicey it a bit up:D

Finishing a map takes a lot of effort and time so good work there. Hope u finish it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I agree that the lighting needs a lot of work, I'll try playing around with the settings like Blueman suggested and maybe it will come out looking a little nicer. I'll implement the other things you have mentioned as soon as I am able, but I wont be able to work on it for a while because of exams... In the meantime I will upload a few more screenies to Nsworld to give you more idea what the rest of the map is like.

<!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> Sorry to say Kalessin I can't play your map yet because my comp is being repaired and the laptop I am currently using can't handle NS <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->.But I did download yer map to backup on a CD,so when I get my comp back I can play it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Hoping the computer tech didn't wipeout my 120gig backup drive lol.

Anyway to your map,I viewed the screenies and the minimap and I think it looks very nice and looks promising to be a very fun map to play. When you said on the site with yer screenies saying you have crappy mapping skills and after I looked at the pictures to me not true as I said it looks very nice and I can't wait to play it.

Keep up the great work and learn as ya go <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> don't rush yerself just do what ya need to do and be calm.If ya get frustrated take a breather lol "break" then come back to mapping. Also again I'm looking forward to any future map releases from you.

Have a nice day and take care

<!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo--> I love this map, its just addictive and has the feel of one of the public releases! Am waypointing it now for Whichbot and RcBot and hopefully more people will become aware of Tharsis. Keep it up!

Oh yeh, why was it removed from NS Central? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    thx

I removed it because i'm no longer working on it. I made it while I was still learning map basics, as a result it is riddled with bugs and performs badly - it will take a lot of work to make it playable, but I have other projects going. I'm glad you like it though, hf <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
