Could do a topic on best FF airship.

I don't know where every one is getting the idea of Squall of being whiney, Tidus was whiney.

I'm going to vote: Because he was always saying things like "Go talk to a wall, I don't want to listen to your problems." "..." "It's not our problem." "Why should I care?"

All his emotions seemed to predictable and fixed. You could tell how he was going to act throughout the entire game. In fact, the only memorable flow of emotion he has is at the Galbadian Garden when everyone's talking about Seifer possibly being dead, saying things like, "People aren't going to talk about me that way when I'm dead!"

...except it went no where and ended up long forgotten scene with his slew of "I don't care!" "Who cares?" "Why should I care?" "Why does anyone care?" Until they gave way to the blatantly obvious, previously mentioned,
<!--QuoteBegin-Seph Kimara+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Seph Kimara)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Whereas Squall mostly remains as Mr. "dot dot dot" until he decides OMG I LUV RINOA<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->, which is poorly designed character work. Which eventually gave way to a terrible endgame (the whole drawing system and the whole end castle [bleep] [bleep] me off to no end) with a decent ending movie.

I mean totally forgotten - you run out of the room, no one cares - you run around the Garden for abit (Zell's there doing pushups), until you run to the main hall and they call you back... Ohh, way to charachterize, guys! Basically - put him in a room with a psychologist and he'll come out with a list of 20 diseases Squall should be taking medicine for.

[<span style='color:red'>few spoilers ahead for people that haven't played FF7 and FF8...</span>yet, pfft, what's up with you people?]

Cloud actually has decently surprising events. You expect him to be a SOLDIER, but it turns out he's not. You expect him to love Aeris (and he does, with the same reluctance shown by Squall), but you don't expect the death scene [which is probably #1 on most remembered game moments for many people]. You expect him to become the hero, to save the world, but he actually develops numerous troubles and conflicts with giving the black materia to Sephiroth.

Cloud also has a better connection with the characters around him. I basically hated everyone they threw at me with FF8 (so I guess I should actuall be sympathizing with Squall, but pfffft that). Zell = annoying, Quistis = bad attempt at creating a character who's trying to be in charge but really isn't - just so much wrong...) and Selphie...bah to her.

FF8 was trying too hard to copy some events from FF7. "OMG, Squall is going to lose Rinoa - in space!" "OMG, Seifer used to be a partner with Squall, but now he's evil!" "We've got to stop the evil <s>Shinra</s> Galbadians!" Bah.

The only people that develop a little in FF8 are Selphie (although you can tell she's still going to be completely spunky and forget Trabia garden was destroyed...), Rinoa and Laguna.

[<span style='color:blue'>Spoiler free as the rest of this thread ahead</span>]
On the clothes part though - Squall beats the pants off Cloud (but no one would want Cloud's pants anyway).

Ragnarok gets my vote. Entire breaking into the pyrmaid thing is cool (especially since you could do it repeatedly, aha).

    [edit2] spelling...woot.

    True, true and true.

Disco: I need to ask if you played FFVII, and if you have. have you played it all the way through? Because Cloud slowly becomes more "human"as the game progresses. That's the character development.

Squall's however consists of "..." followed by "..." followed by "..." followed by "we were childhood friends but the GFs made us forget!!!11" followed by more "..." before "OMG RINOA IS MY LIEF"

Squall wasn't whiney. He was annoying because there was NOTHING to him.

But yes, the Ragnarok is definitely boss.

My favorite Final Fantasy character... Vincent. He's just a badass man. Guns, transformations into hellish beasts, need I say more? Oh, he looks cool too. If it wasn't Vincent, I'd probably go with Kiros from Final Fantasy 8.

ultima, you do make convincing points, and seph, to tell you the truth, I've played FF7 through a couple times but not in a couple years, so I AM working off of memory... but what I do remember is cloud never being passionate about anything except chasing sephiroth because he has an inferiority complex or something... and I can't sympathize with someone who only cares about the person he hates... and maybe the other characters seemed more engaging to some because they were ALL a little over the top, as though they were overacting... FF8's characters were more subtle, and cared about each other more, making them more human and less forced IMO... Quistis wanting to apologize to Rinoa for insulting her, for instance; Rinoa wanting to help even though she's immature about it... and as for FF8 trying to make you fear for the heroine like in FF7 -- that may not be an entirely original idea, but it's not as trite as the plot revolving around some sort of "planet energy" -- I have trouble thinking of RPGs that DON'T revolve around some kind of energy from the planet that's being abused or something...

the moment you mention in FF8, when Squall says, "People aren't going to talk about me that way when I'm dead!" -- that's a turning point in his personality, and it's in disc 1 of 4... he becomes less and less predictable from then on... and as for predictability, you don't have a solid character without a personality you can understand... talk about predictability: "where's sephiroth? where's sephiroth headed? I'll head anywhere sephiroth is! I'm going after Sephiroth!" etc etc...

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->[few spoilers ahead for people that haven't played FF7 and FF8...yet, pfft, what's up with you people?]

this is basically why I said FF7 is about revealing what happened TO the characters and FF8 is about what the characters DO and BECOME...

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Cloud also has a better connection with the characters around him. Cloud's connection to the other characters basically consisted of ignoring them and their emotions the entire game, except for aeris after she died... all he wanted was to chase his enemy... that remains my number 1 beef with the game -- his LACK of a connection to the other characters, who all follow him blindly anyway...

anyway, I agree that the draw system was kinda lame, gotta love having to sit there with your thumb on the X button for 10 minutes to fill up your 3 characters' magic stocks with a spell... and I think the whole "time compression" bit could have been pulled off better, too... but character-wise, I really appreciated squall, rinoa, quistis and zell more than cloud, aeris, tifa, barret and the lot of them...

I said Vivi before. Now that I think about it, I gotta tie him with Gafgarion from FFT.

as for male..... Kuja or Sephiroth... (Apart from the way they dress, they actually look pretty similar - then again, look at Tidus, Cloud, Zidane and Squall, they all have spikey-ish hair... and a sword of some description, but theyre 4 completely different characters).

Notice the title is "Coolest FF Character Outfit" Not coolest naked person in FF.

    And on FF7 and FF8:

I suppose it's just how you interpret the characters, I don't like Squalls attitude and I think Clouds a bit wonky (and Squall has better clothes), but FF7 is more fun for me than FF8 (mostly runined by repetitive visists to different places - and the godawful draw system). Despite all the game specific bashing, they're both pretty fun (except the draw system - I can't stress hating it enough <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).

ya, both games ARE definitely fun, and I really do need to play through FF7 again since it's been a couple of years...

the draw system reminds me of MMORPGs, where you have to do the same repetitive task for hours to get somewhere <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

as for Terra... she still counts because her glowing pink fiery sparkles are her outfit!
