Just because its so few players doesn't mean anything. In fact, I'm willing to bet that they'll get bigger maps within 3 weeks of the game coming out, all supporting a unofficial "mod" which is the regular D3 deathmatch, except with more players, because as they said in their many interviews,its not hardcoded into the engine for the limit. Their expecting a few mods to do 32+ players, the ones really going for it. No worries.
...and just you wait- someone will make a mod with the BFG 9000 in it(and what is that thing anyway? Peh, my mod for Doom3 will just have players held up in a bunker defending with automatic weapons against a constant assault by enemies. Their score would be determined how long they last. The bunker would have two levels, the top level and the basement level. The basement level's entrance (a large blast door in the ground that you jump a short distance into) would shut in an extreamly, scary movie/sci fi like slowness once the top level has been rampaged over by monsteres, then the players would have to run along an escape route underground to an escape point (helicopter.. something..) where they are taken away from the action. Survival is extra points!

Doom 3 in stores now. I know people who has purchaced the game and I have seen tons of screens now. And the in-game video was very scary, so I can't play it anyways.. I've always fancied that BFG stood for Bio-Frequency Generator, and it works by creating a resonating frequency with organic material which makes it fall apart.
