We Need More Servers

self explanatory I think
There are far too few servers right now, so if you are able yourself, or have friends with resources, convince them of the greatness of natural selection and make them set up a new server or two .

You're joking me, every time I look at least half the servers are empty. Having more server != more players. Look at DoD (according to that Gamespy thing) they have twice as many servers, but NS had more players, and STILL has more than enough empty servers.

Nope. I use the regular halflife menu public list, 175 ms. Basically all those servers are completely full. Furthermore there are very few 20 ppl servers, and those are the best(or even more). 16 is a bit too few.

    16 is just nice though.

    8 v 8 is not too little.

    24

    12 v 12

    hmmm.

    Fun but chaotic.

I would rather have less lag than lots of people. I refuse to play on 8 player servers, thats way too small. But 6vs6 and up is fine, as long as my ping is decent (20-150).

The problem is, theres just not enough servers out there willing to sacrafice their CS#5 Dust2 ONLY server for a measly Beta NS server.

6v6 .. pings are great. Any more players and the pings go above ~115ish. (Tbird 1.33/768/Linux/10mbps. Is something wrong here ) *shrug* I'm always in IRC and available if someone wants a mapchange, an **obscenity** kicked, etc.

    I've know of 3 servers (a 14, a 17 and an 18) that are almost always full:

    130.94.121.43:27016
    12.102.7.98 :27105
    12.102.7.99 :27015

the biggest problem seems to be the requirements to run a server. Admins are reluctant to take down 3 CS servers and replace it with 1 NS server.

Most empty servers (about 95%) are passworded. Otherwise they would be filled very soon. When we were testing the 1.01 patch the test servers would usually fill up in about 20 seconds after being turned on.

So yes, we need more servers. Tell you friends, spam your favorite Mod servers, etc.

I ping about 300 average to those 12.x.x.x IPs. When an out of game ping is so high, I don't even want to know what its like when I get in there

I pimp NS in every forum I am a member of, to all my friends and on my site ( I run an NS server ). I even got others to set up servers. I'd love to see the NS team get swooped up by Valve, or some other company, and actually start getting paid for this. They have done an amazing job, far more than I thought was possible with the HL engine.

I use the HL browser also, and most of the servers ping back with a "red" ping, when in fact they have something much better than that. Try removing the max ping filter and you will see ALOT more empty servers, I'm not blind. Also, I've only played maybe ONE game where people had pings below 100, and it was on a smaller server (14-16 or something). I don't know if its just that servers haven't yet applied the patch or what, but there are still some hellacious pings out there.

Also, server admins need to make sure they're connections can support X ammount of players. I was on a server last night where the pings would double when a new player or two would join. This may be a flaw in the code, but I'd lean towards an inadequate server.

Cept then it will become CS, as is slowly happening with DoD. More people = a much larger percentage of llamas, they multiply exponentially. Not to say that the team doesn't deserve something for their hard work. Hopefully fan appreciation will be enough

So amazingly true. I normaly play on a private server. After we unpassword it the server fills up in less that 2 minutes. Good pinging servers fill fast. Pushing for alot of servers will do nothing. Pushing for fast servers is what is needed.
