Probably not - sprites have to be one color to my knowledge. It would be quite handy though...

You can have more than one color.

http://kisan.100free.com/spredit.zip (clicking the link may not work, copy and paste it in browser)

This program will let you edit the sprites. If you don't get how to use it or just don't want to, explain more how you want it and I'll make it for you.

Let me rephrase what I said a little more clearly - I believe a sprite cannot have it's colors changed in-game. Your crosshair must always be the color it starts as in the beginning of the match. It can't shift colors, to my knowledge.

Ah, I see what he means now. I thought he wanted something like a blue crosshair outlined in its negative(red) or something to that effect. D:

actually, that would be quite handy. almost solid red (just enuff to see thru) main part, and a solid blue outline would be good. id need it for all weapons and both alien and rine

I think blue's negative is yellow...

Should be quite a complicated process. For the crosshairs, it doesn't seem to be possible to mix multiple colors (e.g. red and blue) with partial transparency (like the current crosshairs), using the conventional transparency methods.

A way to work around it, is to create a color mesh for the areas that require transparency (i.e. alternating between the color you want and the transparency color) and then use AlphaTest during compilation. I'll try it out right now.

edit: The attached file should fit the description. To install, extract 'mesh_xhair.zip' to your \nsp\sprites folder. If it's not to your taste and you want to roll back, just unzip the contents of 'default.zip' to the same directory. Oh, and remember to tell me what you think of it.

thats damn good job! i dont wanna sound picky or ungrateful though, but maybe have the meshed area a little less fine, some slightly bigger holes would be cool.

like, make holes 4 times larger than they are now?

if you dont want to it ok cause the xhairs are damn awesome anyway

I updated the above attachment. The 1:4 mesh was the one you tried out already, the 1:8 mesh should be slightly more 'transparent'.

Open the main ZIP file, and there should be three more ZIP files inside it.

Extract the contents of one of the files, to \ns\sprites, to achieve the following effect:
1-4_mesh: installs the crosshair (less transparent)
1-8_mesh: installs the crosshair (more transparent)
default: reverts all crosshairs to the NS defaults

You can also just install the crosshairs for certain weapons, by extracting the crosshair sprite (mesh_xhair.spr) and only the appropriate weapon text files.
