an uber n00b speaks
I thought I might try and post a few things I have been thinking about since I started playing this mod for a whole 2 days. I am avid CS player still so I trying hard not to let this bias me as I start playing this really cool idea for a game. The idea alone for this game has amazing possiblities, I cant wait to see where it goes. BTW i havent felt this noob in a long time. It is refreshing. But...
Why do we have such limited range in motion as marines? I thought CS1.5 was bad for movement but this is worse. I feel like i have 100 lb wieght on my back. Backing up? 500 lb weights on me. Also, trigger control? Doesn't seem to do much. Lack of weapons? With a LMG I feel like its an underpowered mp5 with bad accuracy. Seems like there are only 5 guns. HMG, GL, LMG, pistol, and knife. How about some more weapons/specializations. Make it more like the classes the aliens seem to have. Or at least some cool that CS doesn't have. How about medic/wielder? Scouter/sniper? Heavy machine gunner and infantry that can use a lil of everything... stuff like that. Make it so the Marines have to work together more as well. I am going to play aliens only soon just because it seems like as a marine I just run around to waypoints but no body is there, help build stuff when something does appear, look for aliens, shoot til I have no more ammo, never have the commander respond to verbal or menu ammo/health requests, and then get munched to respawn and do it again. Even though the aliens lose a lot at least they communicate. They have to. What about making it more so that the marines have to too?

But I will on the adding many weapons. Adding to many weapons to a game makes balance harder to achieve. Besides, just adding weapons for the sake of "they might be cooler", isn't a good idea. Too many cooks ruin the meal.
To respond to the poster of this message....
I for one like the fact that equipment slows you down, it give you a sense of what your really carrying. I think they amount of weapons in the game right now is fine, maybe some more "utility" items (demolitions pack? hand grenades?) But I for one hope to God that there is never a sniper/scout role put into the game... Or would you rather have the jumping, running, scoped in AWP that one shots any alien out there?
Again, GREAT job to the NS team... keep up the good work.

That's the funniest thing I've read all day.
I kept trying to hit my "run" key to go faster, but after a while you get used to it. I think it's a perfect way to get the teams balanced. I mean, what if the marines could run as fast as a skulk with heavy armor totting a grenade launcher? That would not work out at all.
I don't know why you questioned the idea of walking slower with equipment. You run faster with your knife out instead of a rifle(Ak-47, Colt M4A1, Aug, Scout, AWP/AWM, etc.) or machingun (Para) in Counter-Strike ALL THE TIME. If you think you should go the same pace carrying a load on your back, go load up a back pack full of rocks and try keeping up the same pace with nothing on your back.
More guns? Maybe later but right now its fine. Sure the Aliens have more abilities to pull off for attacking but Marines are powerfull enough as of now.
The whole point of this game is to work as a team. Somthing I never see in anyother games I've played (and this includes Counter-strike). If you go off and do your own thing and don't put any effort into helping your team, then your sure to lose. Work with your team and your bound to win. I've seen one to many games where a whole team is taken out just because they didn't help out their team mates and belive they can win on their own. I see that many many times in CS and its kinda annoying. I see many times some team mates run down a corridor and I belive they have it covered and then I'm killed from an enemy team mate that came down that same corridor my team mates where at.
- To prevent backpedalling when you are attacked by a skulk (this is one of the biggest complaints people had in playtesting)
- To make marines turn around and RUN when they see something big :)
In lots of ways I believe the simplicity in the weapons suit NS because a lot more of the game is based around RTS gameplay. If the NS team had double the amount of weapons they have, we probably wouldn't be playing the game right now and the game probably wouldn't be so balanced as it is.
Exactly.
Gotta love turning around and running screaming like a sisy girl when you see an onos
I also don't see how you can make teamwork any more essential for the Marines. I mean, a lone Marine has the life expectancy of a poisoned fruit fly. Two Marines can last a little longer. Three or four Marines is something that can actually fight and win. As for communication, I've been on Marine teams that don't communicate. They lose. Badly. Two or three Onos badly.
I think as of right now, the Aliens are more used to communicating. They absolutely had to communicate to stand a chance pre-patch. The Marines have to learn that post-patch.
I have never done that. I scream like a sissy girl all right, but I'm usually running backwards trying to put every round I have into the Onos before I die hoping the rest of my team can kill it.
well uhyh this isnt CS, however I love CS... the only thing really alike is controls.. there is no recoil, no counter-strike tactics work here ect ect
I do think marines with HA are a little too heavy... I feel trapped... how easy a skulk could rush towards me and get me with my lack of movement, or an onos! but I guess thats the price for heavy armor.

HAHAHA... IMO the Marines have to work more as a team.. while Kharaa do need both goodfighters and good builders to win a long game, the Kharaa only need good fighters to win early game... If the marines dont stick together that is.. Marines must stick together, they build for their commander and basically are team based when the Kharaa while team based can do many thing's without needing a seoncd player.
Just wish it took over the knife slot instead of the pistol...
Most of the other points have been added, I just wanted to chip in my two cents.
