I'm not on a Dial Up, Vurtual Private, or LAN network so how would I get into settings and set up the proxy filter? Hope someone knows, the flash ads are really getting annoying. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    No -one actually answered, so I'll do so. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Yeah, you still alter the "Lan settings" in IE even if you are not on a LAN / VPN. It's just microsoft playing God with the laws of Terminology.

    "Hell, the internet's on big LAN really, so let's call it 'lan settings'. ".

    Spyware blaster and Hijack this are also good tools that no one has mentioned yet. Spyware blaster also has a tool to take a snapshot of the current spyware-related areas of your PC, to restore them at the touch of a button should you get infected.

    Poxomitron is GREATLY inhanced with custom filters, available from ComputerCop's website, amoung others.

    I would give links to the above programs, but hey, that's what Google's for. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    NetSend was disabled recently by Microsoft to prevent annoying popups. It still works via LAN. The real way of disabling is going to your Control Panel -> Administrative Tools (if you're in Category View, you go to Performance and Maintenance first, then Administrative Tools) -> Services -> Find Messenger on the list, double click it (or right-click and Properties) then click Disable (or is it Stop,) after it's stopped, you go to the little drop down menu and pick Disable from Startup (or something like that.)

    So i followed the instructions and woke up this morning to my computer not being able to surf around. I looked around, and it figures my IE was trying to connect to 127.0.0.1 since thats what I set it to in lan settings as local host. After getting rid of the proxy, my IE now surfs but proxo does not. ANy help?

    You need to run proxymitron in the background.
    127.0.0.1 => THIS pc. The PC you are using. aka "localhost".
    IE is looking for a proxy server THERE, so you must have one running. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I have tried a number of popup blockers and i have found that the google-toolbar is the most effective

    <a href='http://toolbar.google.com/' target='_blank'>http://toolbar.google.com/</a>

    Try it! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    tbh ... you should use "Service Pack 2" to block pop-ups
    it is the best even if it is made by "microsoft" <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    An addition

    get Mozilla (NOT FireFox, just Mozilla) and download the NoScript extension- it blocks ALL javascript (ie, ALL adverts, PERIOD) and then just tell it which sites to let thru <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Easy enough to figure it out
