If You Were Stuck On A Desert Island
A few years back I heard of a BBC radio program in which the host would ask his guest some interesting questions. The guests ranged from Magaret Thatcher to Steven Hawking. One of the questions seemed off the wall but could really tell you a lot about the person depending on their answer. I am a bit curious to see what sort of responses we can get from this forum.
The question: If you were stuck on a desert island and could only have two records(now CDs) to listen to for the rest of your life, what album/work/pieces would you choose and why?
For me:
Swan Lake - Tchaikovsky
Reason: Something about this ballet moves me. Whenever I hear it I pause in reflection
Furious Angels - Rob Dougan
Reason: To compliment the flowing and smooth melodies of Tchaikovsky, I find Rob Dougan is quite thought provoking. His album also includes instrumental only versions of all of his pieces.
[EDIT]: I should have clarified. You have unlimited food and the rest of the world blew up. No hope for rescue or escape. Unless of course you are Snake Plissken.

It's just a really good Happy Hardcore Set.
DJ Storm - Exclusive Mix
Same as above.
I close to always listen to these two sets anyway.
Reason: its about 10 minutes long, so I would have to listen to it nearly 3 times less than other, shorter songs. And I like it.
Had you asked me a couple of weeks ago, I would have chosen Alice Cooper: Poison too, but I'm gonna go with School's Out by the same artist, mainly because it sums up everything that is going right for me (No more school. Ever.)
Or the most reflective to signal boats...or one thats see htrough and use it to magnify the lgiht to start fire.
Mr Scruff - Keep It Unreal
I'm weird, i know <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
A seriously amazing collection of songs
Deltron 3030 - Self titled
<i>The</i> best hip hop album I've ever heard
Well, I'll have to go with:
The Best of R.E.M. In Time 1988-2003 by R.E.M.
-Probably because I like every song except 2 on the CD (16 of 18 isn't too bad).
Not really sure what I'd go with for the other CD (I only own about 8 of them)...so
Yourself or Someone like you by Matchbox 20, or
Classical Music Compilation by Various Artists (woot various artists <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).
They're just stuff to listen to. I'd also consider a CD by Вирус [Virus] if I knew the titles of any of them...(if you're all directed towards the indepth psychological stuff - it's techno music with lyrics). Or Moody Blues...those are usually okay. I might even have a CD from my dad around here somewhere.
[I'd just grab the R.E.M. CD and one of the other 4 randomly <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ]
...Now, what kind of chemical and botanical abundances are around on this island? Is there adequate food and chemical potential to warrant a stay? I could always make a makeshift rifle from a generic projectile, some saltpeter, nitrate and charcoal just to shoot some of those afforementioned evil monkeys drugging you to stay even though you have electricity.
...which brings up the point whether or not I'd be able to remember how to make gunpowder drugged up by these monkeys. Do the monkeys have a vast library of information in book/computer form in which I could read up on fiction and scientific information? Do the monkeys present me with adequate food and water? Do the monkeys exist or are the a figment of the imagination - because I'm stuck on an island with a CD player playing without electricity - or is there only really one monkey and the others are a result of the single monkey's drugs?
Just out of curiosity, what two songs don't you like?
Animal is listenable, but I'd rather not.
Stand is probably the next worse, but that's worth listening to. All the Right Friends is kind of over here too...I rarely/never listen to it - but it's not that bad.
[all the others are great]
Electrolite and At My Most Beautiful grew on me (didn't listen to them/didn't like them much), but now I like them a lot.
Bad Day, Daysleeper and the Great Beyond are my favorites.
[I also have Eponymous, Out of Time and (I think it's called this) #1 greatest hits].
I think Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles could fit in my random stack of second choices...It's good too. Forgot about it, but it has a cool feel to it and most of the songs are good.
Guinness- Because it just rocks.
Dropkick murphys albums - Because they just rock.

Oh...And a plethora of busty wenches.
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black
and
Manticora - Hyperion
Two albums that I love to death, and can listen to every track over and over and over and over. I would love them on a Desert Island.
2) beathoven classics
Rob Dougan - Furious Angels
Erich Kunzel / Cincinnati Pops Orchestra - Symphonic Star Trek
Linkin Park: Reanimation
Barring that, Total Annhiliation because it doubles as a game.
(What does that say about my personality? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<a href='http://www.karadar.com/Dictionary/orff.html' target='_blank'>free and legal midi copy</a>
and no, I want a REAL copy, not midi <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Many of you might know O Fortuna (first song of it) as the song from the adds for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, as well as random other parts often used in cartoons and adds
Its long, it is varied, and I like it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
as for #2?
I would probably have to pick a best of album, probably The Beatles.
Again, varity is the spice of life <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
i just can't decide which though :|
Linkin Park: Reanimation <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Woo.. Tis what I was thinking.. o.O
"How to not only survive, but flourish on a desert island (and start your own space program), Volume II (also included: "The best of" Elevator music)
Slipknot - Vermilion Pt. II
D.T.S.o.N isn't at all calm, but it makes me think about random things, which would be better than nothing on an island.
Vermilion, I would say because it makes me think about my loved ones. (Yes, I know, very emotional and queer) makes me happy in the end for a reason, not the song's reason though.
Albums - Staind, Break the Cycle & Machine Head
Depends... We saying a CD Case, cause most my CD cases have 2 CDs, and also can I better speakers? Ha ha... and the silence follows...
It reminds me civilization <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> Word "asum" means foundation, civilization etc..
All songs of Taavi Laatsit are pretty good.
The other album, I don't know. Something abmient or downbeat.
EDIT://
It would be very spooky on the Island when I take some Dark Ambient tracks with me and listen them all the time <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> I probably go crazy and run from something what tries to catch me in my head..
Mr Scruff - Keep It Unreal

Rah, good choices!
Got them both and love those albums. Radiohead is just incredible and Mr Scruff? Well who can get bored of songs about fish?
<!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
or
1) Nightwish Collection
2) Sonata Arctica Collection -"Broken" has to be the best song ever made.
Album number two would probably be <b>Doolittle</b>, by <b>The Pixies.</b>
