    actualy, I don't think net flix has it... (upon sugesting you rent it I went to look through their anime selection <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Block Buster probably has it

    hehe, you could always pick up a boot leg copy for $5 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    honestly, it is a very good movie, however if it is not your style of thing then it aint worth getting.

    Oh, and if you are looking for an action flick (as the weapons from it are friken cool) dpon't bother as it is more a psychological/phylisophical flick.

    The basic background (though never stated) is what happens if Nazi Germany won?
    It is based in a post WWII era Japan where it is basicaly a police state.

    You can see the WWII German influence on weapon design (very cool).

    I saw it when it first came out in the theaters in NYC (gota love living in The City), was well worth it for the one show.

    Hmm... know any good gun flick anime movies then, besides Akira? Already watched that..

    jin roh is good. don't know what you're missing, you need to see it to understand it.
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
    hehe

    oooh Inf, where are you?

    Oh, and Akira aint a Gun flick, it is a psychological/political movie <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> (ok, so I am a quasi Anime geek and I han out with some realy horible anime geeks <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    lets see.....
    Hellsing was a good action flick (so long as you ignore the rushed story line, suposedly the manga has a better plot)
    Trigun (action, comedy and a great plot)

    oh, wait, you want OAVs/movies, don'tcha?
    Ghost In The Shell

    ah bugger it

    I need sleep, wait till Inf gets around to slaming you with anim knowledge <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Before we start you can pick up a Region 1 copy of Jin-Roh for $12 here:
    <a href='http://dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=27760' target='_blank'>http://dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=27760</a>

    I want to find someplace that sells the Special Edition....

    Thansal pretty much got the main points of Jin-roh so I don't need to explain it.

    If you're after an action orientated movie, I'd suggest Spriggan. A very under-rated film in my opinion.
    Lots of guns~
    Lots of action~
    Excess of violence~

    You gotta love it when he rips of a huge mini-gun off the back of a jeep and goes bat-s*** insane with it~

    I was about to post about Spriggan.

    I have to admit that the ripping off the minigun then going berserk bit is very violent, but very cool.

    Im assuming theyre both dubbed?

    DVDs almost always come with both japanese soundtrack and english track as well as subtitles so you can watch them any old way you want =3
    Only exception to that rule was the 'Youre under arrest' OAVs... luckily the dub wasn't too bad but I'm still miffed =P

    Jin-Roh is a little odd, a little creepy and a little depressing but it's a good film. I got the special edition of it!!! =D
    ~sticks on the soundtrack CD that came with it~

    uhhhh... yeah. Anyways if you want to really be depressed though watch grave of fireflies. If you're not in tears or slitting your wrists by the end of it you probably wouldn't flinch at being told your family and everyone you've ever loved just died horribly and painfully ^^

    A fun but old flick is Cyber City Oedo... more action than you can shake a packet of pocky at and fun to watch too <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Jin-roh was pretty weird, but it's not like it requires a doctorate to understand it.

    I fully understood jin-roh after wathing it twice.
    I watched it 5 or 6 times now <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
    A great movie i can say, i like depressing movies, they creep up some feelings out of my "i don't care" statement <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

    But, like mentioned before, grave of the fireflies is very sad made me really cry, i love it!

    Jin Roh is depressing? Hmm... if one does not like depressing movies, should one attempt to aquire a copy and watch anyway?

    I myself am a self-labeled anime nut, but i've never heard of Jin Roh before. Also looking for Spriggan now. I love anime movies, but rarely get anyway.

    and yes, if you want a nice gun series Trigun would fill the bill (edit - Hellsing is more of a gun anime than Trigun, also great series btw). GREAT series. one of the best no questions about it. You should make any sacrifices you need to at least see the show once. Borrow it from a friend or go pillage your local Sun Coast. ^_^

    I'd go for it. Jin Roh's plot consists in effect of two parts - one concerning a (very well illustrated) intrigue within the Japanese police state, the other revolving around the internal conflict of a trained soldier. The second part - which is what I assume most consider the depressing aspect - is honestly a little templatic, so if you have seen your share of anti-war movies, it won't impress you too much.

    I was a littled cheesed off by Spriggan. Mostly due to the fact that apparently there were TONS of the spriggan guys. But the part where the main character whose name I can't remember pwns the guy who plays with wires is great.

    Yep, Hellsing and Trigun are both really good animes. I watched most of every japanese version of the anime on adult swim or toonami, with the exception of some other animes I couldnt get.
