Post YOUR tales of the amazing!
We're on ns_hera, it's my first time playing, and I'm the commander. After setting up 3 spawn points, an armory, a turret factory, and a few turrets here and there, I set a waypoint for the marines in my spawn, the holoroom. After setting up a base and teleporter there, I begin the process of upgrading from LMG's to HMG's and Heavy Armor. I move one group of three armored marines to Archiving, 4 armored marines to Ventilation, and 2 to Reception. After beating back a few Skulks and Lerks, I order my marines to begin setting up outposts at their locations. 5 minutes later, they return to the spawn, having captured many resource nodes along the way. The final assault is ready to commence. We surround the hive in Processing, setting up siege turrets and armories while on location. After the first shot from the siege cannon sounds, numerous aliens pour from the hive intent on protecting their hive. They're annihilated. We close in on the hive and destroy it. It tooks us a mere 12 minutes to remove the alien threat from the colony.

j/k, sounds pretty fun, almost like a movie. But tell me, was this before or after the patch? I am assuming before based on your post count
1)Shows Marines still depending on turrets, or trying to.
8v8, half the team is gorge, and thats bad. Aliens can't really win unless they hamper marine expansion. Sooo, I rush to the mess hall, and climb up the circular vent?? overlooking the node. Three marines come in, and they start work on a tower. I drop down, and nip at their heels like a good Skulk. They all die.. screams of "*****obscenity**" are heard. I go to a different spot, the same three come back, start on another recently made node, since I destroyed the previous. I rush up and kill them all again. Chuckling at their even more agitated responses, and having made them waste 44 RP, I leave. I was a good Skulk I believe. It was pure ambush and pure excitement. After this incident, they just stayed in their base massing turrets, which they shouldn't have done. Thats why we won
2.) Shows how marines that DON'T turret spam, can win.(we did)
Next round, I join marines. We start building turrets but I caution the commander that it is unadvisable. We send 5 guys out after loading up at the armory. I act as a ground commander, ordering in the thick of battle. Standard RTS things, like concentrate fire, and other things. We conquer the nodes one-by-one, we are using LMGs still. Because of this, we are able to save resources. The game was really back and forth, but due to tactics, we had the RP for HA and GLs and HMGs and all that other "cheap" stuff when we really needed it.
Alright sooo, basically, tactics trump balls to the wall DM play, even with aliens! Having a "ground commander" coordinating fights is real helpful too! I love this game, the new patch is for the better I believe.
My eyes can rest.
But anyways, with the alien there was a good moment today... everyoones trying to defend the third hive from evil humans attacking it (lots of red flashing everywhere, cries of 'crap they have grenades') etc. But I had just enough to go onos.
I was a gorge so I set up a huge web trap around me and start to evolve. About 75% of the way thru a marine comes round the corner and gets hit by the webs. Like several all at once. Hes dead still and has to stand and watch as I complete morphing into Onos and eat him up. But it doesnt end there. It turns out all the marines were doing a well-executed assault on our hive, ie, ALL of them. I 'charged' into their base and destroyed their spawn points, in about 6 seconds (due to the Charge ability working so well). Then their turrets. (Onos charge takes UNDER a second to kill a turret) I watch the scoreboard as their guys slowly become all red and not respawn The commander starts dropping spawn points but I'm standing right there so I kill them until he stops doing it. Then I charge kill the command center Everyone suddenly ends up in the ready room ... alien team going WTF?
In fact, I was the only builder, except for a 3 minute span when a friendly evolved, dropped a hive, then devolved.
Basicly, we had 3 hives in 10 minutes. at one point, I dropped movement chambers and built them so fast, that the people that evolved the trait as soon as it evolved come out of the cocoon with 3 levels of upgrade .
So, we move into maintnance, and I build 3 def chambers, about 6 OC's in the smoky corridor, and web it up to look like Charlotte was there on crack.
I go around to the reception enterance, and do the same thing, then me and 2 other aliens go Onos, with a lerk and a fade.
Once we start the charge, the game is over in 30 seconds, no joke.
Lessee, my favorite story begins on Hera, alien side. My best friend is playing on the marine side. At the beginning of game, I tear open the little grate leading into the marine base, and parasite all marines and structures. This proves to be very bad for the marines, because now all the aliens have the marine main base on their radar (now even those easily lost get to attack, fast).
About mid-way into the game, the marines move out of theitr base, and leave it undefended save for a couple turrets. I evolve into a Lerk, quickly fly past all the defenses, and find to my dismay that there are also turrets outside the command center room. It didn't take long for me to figure out my best friend was the one who made the reccomendation (no commander is intelligent enough at this point to defend the CC from quick buggers like me). No worries; I just fly right on past those to, open the door to the command room, and dive behind the CC, only a little damage done. I have adrenaline, and I continually *chomp* *chomp* *chomp* through the CC with no one to stop me. The commander hops out, then runs out of the room into turret range and fires on me, hoping to lure me out to my death. Too bad he underestimated the health and armor I still had. I quickly attain top speed, fly directly into the poor guy's face, chomp his face off, and fly right back into the CC room again (I took minimal damage from turrets; Mr. Commander's body provided a good shield =). I succeed in destroying the Command Center, humans are now screwed, thanks to that special brand of Dave.
But here's where the story gets good.
The humans, now limited to LMG's, know they have to move in groups to survive, and do so. Meanwhile, us aliens secure the third hive, and me and two of my teammates evolve into an Onos. The two Onos's follow me around, quite to my pleasure (it was all thanks to my little accomplishment earlier), and we head for the elevator shaft leading to the glass tunnel into the marine main base. We find a single fade being assaulted from below by a group of three marines; the fade nearly dies, and the marines retreat to reload their puny LMG's. They had no idea what trouble they were getting into. I and my two Onos buddies drop down the elevator shaft, and I find out that the leader of the marine team is none other than my best friend =). The team of marines don't even ATTEMPT to shoot us - you could just hear them all saying "HOLY JESUS H. CHRIST" in their seats - and try in vain to make the long run back to their base. I and my two Onos friends fall into this V-formation, kinda like this...

*edit* Ok, pretend those Onos's are behind me. In V-formation. Yeah. Stupid board, deleting my spaces.
...and we ALL start charging down the hallway. My friend gets gutted by yours truly, his team splattered against the glass walls of the corridor, and we 3 Onos's procede to tear apart what was left of the marine main base. Both teams were laughing at what happened.
Hehe.. reminds me of when the commander jumped out of his pod when he was the last.. i told the guys not to kill him..but to parasite him.
We spent the next 5 minues strafing him and hunting him with skulks till he ran out of ammo.
... then the onos came...
Me and another marine are walking down a corridor and reach an elevator. We both have heavy armor and HMG's.
We hit the button on the elevator and slowly descend. As the open passage on the other side of the elevator comes into view, we see two of these: just staring at us like: "Oh, you've saved us some time."
Immediately one charges straight at us and we both pour fire into him. Now the thing is running straight into me against the wall, but surprisingly I don't die. Amazingly, with both of these there, we're able to kill one with our HMG's.
Now there's still the other one right there ready to finish the job, but someone (my fellow marine or a very stupid onos) pushes the button to the elevator. However, the onos happens to be halfway in and halfway out of the elevate and he gets stuck. Now both of us would just shoot him to death with our HMG's, but we're out of ammo.
So what do we do? We run up and start knifing him. All the while he's just wiggling around, wondering what the hell is going on. Within no time me and my teammate killed the onos with our knives. We thought the whole thing was hilarious, but that last onos was a little peeved...
My team have managed to set up a second base in one of the alien hives, and are busy locking it down. I check back to our main base and notice that like a moron I've put the turret factory where the aliens can nail it without stepping into the line of fire. I calmly put a new CC and spawn spot in the other base, and decide to sacrifice this one... so I forget about the aliens and concentrate on turreting the hive to hell and back, and helping my team defend it with armour and health, as long as I can.
The aliens get in pretty quickly, and I can hear them chomping away at the turrets and the spawn spot and so on. Eventually I look back at the base and realise they've pretty much killed it, so I decide to abandon ship , and try run for the the new base and take command again, so I leap out of the command chair (which for some reason they've ignored up to that point). I start blasting away with my lmg, and realise it's 2 fades... brief 'uhoh' moment. So I'm strafing past, empty my clip, decide 'ok, this is it' and then watch the fade leap past me and down the bottomless pit that's at the end of the room. I'm laughing so hard I can't even fire at the other fade, who's standing there wondering where his friend went...
Then this Marine walzed in, swagging his HMG around in a Heavy Armor suit. I Blinked out of there in a panic. So after he starts rebuilding some stuff I Blink in, swipe a few times and then leave. I peek around the corner and he is working on the building again! So I Blinked in and took him from behind. From there my team moved in and took the Node. I went to the enemy base(I think it was Nancy, can't remember...) and got to the control room above the base by Blinking. I proceed to blow the Seat up. So they were without a commander. Then an Onos charged in as ripped the Infantry Pad wide open. They kinda gave up after that.
I retreated to a nearby door, hit the switch and what do I see next? A mighty hungry skulk. He runs past and I think myself "hmm this could work..." So we both charge all 4, me spraying my webs and him biting like crazy. He gets THREE of them while they got caught in my web of doom lol, and I got the 4th with the spit. GG teamwork
I hopped into the chair for a 6v6 (or so) on Caged, probably my favorite map. After setting up turrets to defend the IP and CC, I sent my marines to secure the Generator hive. They arrived without incident, setting up turrets and a phase gate. Grendel was one of my marines - always a bit of a lone gunman, he was traipsing around. I let him, because I know he's a good shot and often has great strategy ideas.
Well, my marines were a bit disorganized, and I had to give them the rough side of my voicecomm a few times - we were pretty disorganized towards the midgame when Grendel advised me to lay down a phase and some turrets in the eastern approach to the Vent hive. I did so, but the aliens had two hives and were giving my expansion hell. We started to creep forward with turrets, finally reaching teh elevator into the hive. I informed my marines that the Generator hive had fallen; taking out the vent hive was our only chance at denying them 3 hives. 5 marines equipped with a variety of weapons rushed into the hive and tore it apart. I left one behind while the rest headed back through the phase, and had him set up a turret factory and siege to make sure the hive STAYED down.
Unfortunately, I didn't have many RPs, and wasn't well-situated to defend the Vent hive. My marines were scattered, moving around the map in 2's and 3's, attacking alien outposts, requesting ammo & health constantly, and overall not helping my cause much. The turret factory in Ventilation went down, and soon I was dealing with direct assaults by 3-hive Fades on my main base. Then, once again, Grendel came to my rescue. In the antechamber north of the sewer hive, he and one other marine had managed to situate themselves on a raised catwalk, unbeknownst to the aliens. They quickly constructed a phase gate and turret factory, armory, and a half-moon of 6 turrets guarding the two entrances to the room. I finally corralled the rest of my marines to base and sent them through the phase, where I dropped a siege turret against the wall and started pounding at the hive.
The hive was down, and my marines - the same group, for the most part, that had taken the Vent hive - welded up and headed through the sewer area. There were 5 of them: 4 HA with 2 HMGs and 2 GLs, one grunt with a shotgun, and 4 welders among them. Outside the weldable grate that lead to ventilation, we set up another forward base - 4 turrets and a phase gate. Aliens rushed the outpost, but were no match for my finally-coordinated team.
Suddenly I received warning that my sentries were taking damage; I jumped to the alert, and saw the acid rockets of a Fade tearing into the base outside Sewer. I yelled at my marines to take the phase, but they had begun the assault on Ventilation and were too caught in battle to come back. So I dropped 2 more turrets where the fade was under attack, popped out of the CC, and jumped through the phase gate with a shotgun and welder. As I fired from far-too-long range at the Fade, another marine with an HMG finally came through the gate. He took out the fade, and I quickly built the two new turrets and welded the rest. Hopping back through the phase, I was back in the CC as my marines finally dropped the Ventilation hive; not one marine had died in the assault.
And then, disaster struck. My hand knocked into the beer I had been drinking (beer + NS = sw33t, as long as it's not too much beer!), toppling it. This is the second time it's happened - you'd think I'd learn - last time was on my keyboard. This time, at least, was on my lap instead. I scared the hell out of my marines, typing "**obscenity**! AFK!!!" and logging out of the console. As I grabbed a towel, one of my marines yelled, "someone get in the chair now! christ!!" Losing a commander's kind of traumatizing, I guess. (:
A few minutes later I was changed and dry, and explained to my marines what had happened, giving them a good laugh. Someone else had grabbed the chair, so I pulled up the scoreboard and saw that (1) Grendel had switched teams, and (2) the teams were still 7M vs. 3A. I guess the aliens couldn't handle my commanding. To do what I could to even the teams, I switched to aliens, where I took stock of the situation. 1 hive up, one bottled up by marine fortifications. Grendel made a run for the MS, and after respawning yelled "The MS is weak! 3 turrets in it - we can take that!" He was right; over the course of the game, my main base had been whittled away - especially in the brief stint when the aliens had 3 hives and bile-bombed us like it was going out of style.
I chased after Grendel as he made his way back to the marine start, hiding behind the resource tower there (cloaked) as I evolved to Lerk. From long range, I began to spike the turret that I knew was protecting one side of the Command Console (having put it there myself!). Grendel tore into the Infantry portal, which soon fell, followed shortly by the turret I was chipping away at. Marines around the map began to die, and weren't respawning... soon it was only one marine and the commander, and we were gnawing away at the console. His last marine appeared in base through the phase gate, and I quickly spiked him to death as the commander finally dropped an infantry portal... but it was too late. Forced to log out to build the IP, he was quickly eviscerated by Grendel's vicious bite. A stunning upset and a 1-hive victory for the aliens!
The moral? ALWAYS build a backup CC! I failed to, and as a result lost the game even as I won it. But a great game, any way you slice it. (:
he was quite hurt tho
It was soo funny every1 started calling the guy who was the onos 'u noob WTF u got knifed ?!?!@'
Anyway, i was a marine, with heavy armor and a shotgun.. i have no clue what map it was, as it was one of my first times playing.
Anyway, i was by myself, contrsructing a base RIGHT outside an enemy hive. the base was something like five turrets and a factory.. three turrets in the front, two in the back, and the factory in the middle. only the factory was completed, apparently the builders had died before they could finish it. when i got there, there was a skulk gnawing away at one of the front turrets, not knowing i was there. so, simple enough, i shoot him once, and he 'splodes. of course, shotguns arent the quietest guns around, so soon enough i get this swarm of skulks (when i checked the scoreboard, it turns out it was only three, it seemed like a shitload more at the time. mighta been some babblers..) rushing at me, trying to gnaw at my feet. so i start running backwards, shooting wildly at the skulks, until there's only one or two left. little do i know, there's a fade behind me. so, i'm backing up, pumping shells into the skulks, and i run dead into the fade. you can guess what happens next. heh
