Neocron
<div class="IPBDescription">Should i ?</div> I've bought Neocron over a year ago, and i still haven't played it.
As i intend to play only the 4 weeks trial, i was looking for a good time with free 4 weeks to play it.
Well.. Its over a year and i guess ill never find that kind of time,
so i wanted to ask you-all-knowers-ns-forumers, is this worth playing at all ?
Should i just play it as much as i can, sell it, or keep waiting ? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The reviews i read weren't too impressive aswell...

Any particular sector?
NOTE: I play on Saturn.
"This installation even though highly secured, had been infiltrated by a currently unknown group of operatives. Almost immediately upon entering the facility, all four reporters were overpowered by the operatives and carried off."
"It is certain that they have not yet been killed. The kidnappers have managed to muffle the outgoing signal from their tracking-implants so we are unable to detect where they are, what they have said, but a signal is received, indicating their well-being."
So i wanted to ask, is it possible to take over buildings and take hostages in this game ?
It seems as its Limitless, with alot of options and things to do, unlike most reviews that i read that said its a game with not much to do, and limited options.
Can someone confirm if thats possible to do ?
Or was it some Sci-fi Story ?

Nono, the way most MMORPGS work is that the "operatives" are NPC bad guys who sit around with NPC good guys (reporters) waiting for heroes to come in and free the reporters. Everyone respawns. Repeat.
Thanks for explaining that :o)

Or you can goto the outzone aka the old industry part of Neocron thats been left abondond and unused since the majority of the population left of Itra III, and its now inhabited by the criminal underworld and mutants.
Anyway, tonight at around 8PM GMT I will be haappy to guide you all through any area and try and power lvl you to avoid having to kill rats for the first day. Basic bone enforcments will be available as well as basic meele weapons.
EDIT: Looking at those maps they are all HORIBLY out of date, there are more places than that.
NeoCron is an okay game. It lacks any real excitement, but then it also lacks any real flaws. Kind of like CoH with a more conventional leveling system.
It's a strip club in Pepper Park I think. Never really been interested in NC, but checked the site outa couple times.

Outpost wars are pretty fun, as is raiding an enemy factions HQ.
I made a major enemy in the most powerful PKer in the game. I was walking along pepper park coming back from the corporate base in there when he turned up with his trademark poisonous flamethrower killing everyone. I almost escaped but got caught just as I was about to reach the exit =/
Anyways, I vowed vengeance and made it so all the player vendors wouldn't sell to him (wasn't hard to do considering he'd PKed a few of them in the past) and I'd tease him across channel chat whenever we were in the same zone (drove him nuts when we were in peace zones where he couldn't even try to kill me XD ).
The only time he ever had a chance to try and kill me a second time before he was banned when I was just walking along minding my own business in a zone when I noticed his name on the 'visible' list and got a fright. Luckily I'm good at hiding so he never found me but he sure as heck wanted to =3
Later on the crackheads who were a griefer clan who worshipped 'Nathan Profit.' (the PKer I was talking about) tried several assassinations on me too though they got repelled by friends who protected me; having one of the best constructors in the game making hardware for me was handy ^~
After a while though the assassination attempts stopped and without the sense of danger I kinda got bored and left. Who knows though; I might jump on the trial soon and get back into it... had more fun in NC than I have in CoH that's for sure ^^

The reviews wern't good because it's a POS MMO. Don't bother, if you can pawn it off to some poor soul I advise you to do so. It's a piece of garbage.
If you got the hardware, and want to get into a awesome MMO, go for WoW or EQII when they come out, or even FFXI. I've heard a ton of good things about CoH, like it's REALLY deep character creation. That'd be a good bet too.
EQII's graphics are amazing...
<a href='http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_everquest2_e3_2k4.html' target='_blank'>http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_eve...st2_e3_2k4.html</a>
:o :o :o
Unlike CoH you can learn and change stuff as you want and there's plenty to do and see. CoH is nice and all but the only thing to do is level, the character creation is great and the combat is nice but it doesn't make up for the fact it's just level level level in the end. I'm still waiting for them to release the next content patch to see if something interesting comes with it =/
If I was going to rave about any upcoming game it'd be <a href='http://www.playtr.com' target='_blank'>Tabula Rasa</a>. It's a very very cool MMO with no auto-attack (fighting is quite a bit like CoH actually except more involved), highly customisable characters, amazing worlds, you can teleport straight to people in your friends lists, you can 'bookmark' and instance your character going back to the old bookmarks if you don't like the branch you took or even playing two seperate instances of your char and lots of other cool and weird stuff including everyone starting with their own, personal and customisable floating island ^^
It's headed by none other than 'Lord British' himself; Richard Garriot!
Oh and one thing I quite like is that weapons 'bond' with you, so if you find a favourite weapon and use it lots it'll get better along with you =D
Did I mention the game has full voice-comm capabilities? =o
there's a good write-up/interview about it <a href='http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/529/529635p1.html' target='_blank'>here</a>.
<img src='http://jivemagazine.com/games/2004/images/TabulaRasa/big/triskelion_sshot05.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
<b>edit:</b> For a really good review (mainly because it has a video walk-through) check <a href='http://jivemagazine.com/games/2004/tabularasa.php?PHPSESSID=cbef75a98867297edadbf48801d44ab3' target='_blank'>Jive Magazine's Review</a> ^^
Is there any more information on that part? This may be the closest I'll get to a Skies of Arcadia MMORPG. :O
You can customise it with all kinds of stuff but the main thing is that you own it from the start and you can invite people to it, give people access to it or even set up a weird 'vendor' thingy. Not sure on that last one but it all sounds cool to me ^^
<b>edit:</b> Think Toejam and Earl ^~
The floating island system sounds exactly like houses in UO.
Here's what I wanted - to stand on the balcony of my four-story house that I had to whomp a million swamp rats to afford, looking up a clear sky which will gradually turn to night and day and night and day, chatting to a few chums and not doing much at all.
Trailer looks good!

Or you could womp a million swamp rats to cap the character and then no wait theres nothing else to do!!!
Or you could finish any other videogame ever made and then no wait there's nothing else to do!!
I miss the days when that sentance would fill me with hope... then came Ultima IX, and UO, which slowly fizzled... and nothing since...
but still, you have my interest <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->
