AllUrHive, it's quite easy to zap memory modules like that unless airhumidity is quite high, they don't nessecarilly die either, no they often just generate lots of memory errors in one module and cause very frequent BSODs and such making you suspect that maybe something else is wrong.
if you zap some VRAM it will generate image corruption, such as random coloured lines or garbage in a tiled, repeating pattern across the screen.
If you don't have equipment to ground yourself at least avoid touching the RAM - modules directly and walking around while holding static sensitive parts, touch a grounded object now and then while installing.

Yeah it was by chance however... I bought 1GB of RAM from the store, but the moronic sales guy who had to go get it brought me a 2 packs of 2 512MB DIMMs, thinking it was 2 packs of 1 512MB DIMM. I've come to respect stupid sales people <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Edit: the store doesn't scan things when you buy them at the parts desk, they just enter the name into the comp, then once the order is placed go get the parts
So its 4 chips of 512, not bad at all. Although 4 of <a href='http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator/PartsInfo.asp?ktcpartno=KVR533D2E4/1G' target='_blank'>these</a> would kind of PWN the everything.
