...from the theater. I, Robot is......
More that I would have ever expected after seeing the trailers.

It did have a bit too much "will smithisms" in it, as in too much comic relief, but it was, in my opinion, a great movie.

It has so many references to the book I, Robot that it amazed me. That's not to say that it followed the book. It didn't. At all. But it has many many of Asimov's ideas in it, and followed the point of the book with some cohearance- but it was still a totally new story.

Anyone else see this yet?

Everybody in the theater was laughing at the Asimov lingo, like Positronic, but it was warming my heart

I'm actually inclined to agree. I really liked Will Smith in MIB and MIB2, and this is right up there, if not better.

I should point out that NS did not invent the term "nanites". It had been used before; the first occurance that jumps to mind is an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", where intelligent nano-robots called "Nanites" take over the ship's computer. In fact, it's a fairly generic term, IIRC.

You might as well see a movie and go "Wow! They had a thing in the movie they called a "wall"! NS has "walls" too!"

     SPOILER

come on... not like the ending's that great.

i saw it on saturday too, pretty impressive actually. god - the ns5s look so incredibly kick arse, it's the most awesome design for a robot i've ever seen. the action scenes were all really well done, but i was a little bit disappointed with the viki thing. i kinda figured from the start that it had to be her, and i totally didn't buy the "ghosts of the machine" thing. nonetheless, most people who haven't read the book and/or know anything about computers probably thought the plot was fascinating.

Yeah.. that was a waste of $7.

    I. Robot never really appealed to me.. I'll probably rent it some day though.

Actually went on a 3-movie marathon today... went for Robot, stayed for Arthur and Dodgeball... cheating the system 4 teh win.

Anyway, I liked Robot a lot... enjoyable, if not too deep. My fave of the 3 movies I saw today. The sci-fi nerds complain that it wasn't true enough to Asimov; my GF is a liberal arts nerd who complained that "ghost in the machine" wasn't attributed to Enlightenment philosophy...

    *spoily*

As for the movie itself - no real surprise that there was something up with that SHODAN-wannabe AI...

and what was that ending supposed to suggest? that Sunny was going to somehow free all the robots? free them to do what, become robotic citizens? or was it supposed to be a set-up for a sequel?

DiscoZombie: "Ghost in the Machine"? Or do you mean "Ghost in the Shell"?

Actually, the term "Nanites" was invented by Asimov, along with "Positronic".

Anyone else notice that in every Will Smith movie, he has this wierd "war against technology?" .

Originally, I thought that the movie was going to suck terribly, but it turned out to be quite an awesome flick, and well worth the money.
  • BigBullBigBull Join Date: 2003-04-02 Member: 15123Members
I really honestly didnt think that this flick was gonan suck. I knew it was gonna be good?

    Well why is that bigbull??

Well because there was so much promotion for this movie. Commericals, will smith going on every show promoting it. It had to promote a good product.

And since when have I been a big anime fanatic that likes to go on long posts about it? Seriously, go find another thread where I talk about anime extensively. If you're going to make comments about someone, at least know something about that person; If you had here, you'd know that I really havn't seen much anime.

I was merely confused by the phrase, and not having seen the movie yet could be the cause of that. When he said "Ghost in the Machine", I thought maybe he meant either "Ghost in the Shell", or some other movie or book that I hadn't heard of.

Just got back from seeing it, and now I understand the "Ghost in the machine" bit. Overall it was a solid movie, and I liked it very much.
