LOL?

maybe you should look at the maps that are played on servers most of the time and ask yourself, why other offical maps had been removed from the cycle by most of the admins.

that would be a good start to figure out, what the players like.
but obviously style itself isnt enough...

Diferent thing mix up great some times other times they DON'T
So you must think waht to put and when to put!!

Anyway i dont think that there is a recepy (don't know how to spell it, and i don't bother looking) for an all-good-map because there is allways something new for you to put on your map.

You should start by asking (if you want) What do People DON'T like on maps! Otherwise you almost for shore will ruin your map trying to put every thing that everyone likes

A sugestion: Try to put something new something of your own, everone likes new things and that is the only thing you need to know to make a your map look good (exept if YOU ARE A F%&#$ N00B)

My opinion hope that no1 agrees!! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I personally like wierd angles and curves, dark alcoves, and frequent elevation change. And vents that (shocking!) arent just boxes. Bast has a good amount of this, but unfortunately the map has definite tactical floorplan/layout problems and thus is not generally well liked. This is a very important lesson... no matter how many little nifty bits and nice architecture you have, if you want peopel to PLAY your map it has to be balanced. and flow well, etc.

You have to close the tags not repeat them. the text you have would be as this

<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->WHAT ALL DO YOU ALL "DON'T" LIKE IN/ON A MAP?<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

I think a better way for you to go about it is load up YOUR favorite maps and walk around them and see what you like the most and see what you hate the most then see if you can work some of what you like into your own map while avoiding the things that you hate. Don't do a direct copy, use origional material but allow others work to help inspire you to do something different.

For instance, if you hate lots of 90 degree turns in a map and prefer nice smooth coridors and lots of 45 degree bends then maybe do something similar in style to Eclipse.

Maybe you hate having maps that are all real bright and like something darker, maybe try lighting styles similar to agora.

And I always find that movies are a good source for inspiration b/c most often when your mind is distracted from consciously working on something, that's when you get some of your best inspiration.

Symmetry and a double node.

O Full-Bright the map
O Have wide corridors
O Have corridors it takes several seconds to cross as a non-celerity skulk
O Have too little cover in said long corridors
O Have too much ceiling detail (protruding lights, pipes, etc) because of skulk wall climb/fade blink
O Have insane amounts of wall detail (piping, support beams, etc) because of skulk wall climb
O Use too many non-NS textures
O Go over the entity limit
O Have boring architecture (have piping and similar things that could disrupt ceiling wallwalk behind grating)
O Have symetry
O Use different themes, mixing them (Industrial/Scientific theme combo)
[O Have a double node; unless you know what you're doing]

<span style='font-size:13pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:green'><b>DO:</b></span></span>
O The opposite of everything above.
O Use common sense and "If I were a Skulk/Lerk/Fade/Onos/LA or HA Marine/JP Marine..." map ballancing skills. (co_angst demonstrates poor "If I was a onos" senses; ns_ayumi has "bad lighting" and the "wide, open hallway" syndrome; eclipse has poor "If I was a skulk" senses)

Hah! Ayumi has bad lighting, yeah right! I'd like to see you make something with better lighting than ayumi.
