A Hypothetical Situation...

a way to ruin games easily
Last night I played in a game where I was marine and we were doing quite well... after a bit I called for a medkit and nothing came... called again... noticed the commander had left the game.... I was killed, spawned, and noticed we had no command center (lol that loser lost the command center than fled before any marines realized what happened) we did get the aliens eventually, with just our wits, motion tracking, and the lmgs we spawn with.

but what if this were combined with another trend i've seen in some games lately?

Marines are winning, they get all three hives, just stragglers remain, but all the stragglers need killed to end the game... so the go and hide in vents, on top of buildings, or in general any place not easily accessable to marines. Now the marines need to spend another ten minutes getting jetpacks and gl's and rooting through every corner and vent to finally win the game... but if they can't get these things (maybe because of the story i told earlier) how can they ever win? whats there to stop the alien from sitting in his little vent forever and pretty much wasting the server until he feels like leaving?

Hehehe, the person sitting somewhere hiding probably has a very boring life =P Normally when I play and my teams is 100% sure they're losing they all just go to ready room so a new game can start.

    Yes there is,

Its called an active server admin. Unfortunately you don't find too many servers with those on the pub's.

    Ah well, take care.

In situations like that and the straggler is my own teammate I note their location, switch teams and kill the **obscenity**.

There are many ways to combat such situations.

    1. Do not publish this in a public area. This will help to not spread these ideas to those who would use them.

    2. Play on a server with an active server admin. I am on my server almost 90% of the time when there are other players there, and when I'm not, I have an assistant.

    3. Marine's can build observatory structures that alert troops when Alien's presence is near. Cover the map with them, and the remaining Kharaa can't hide.

    4. Find your hiding teammate, and switch teams to kill him.

This shouldn't be a problem as far as I am concerned.

Your first situation doesn't make any sense to me, and I can therefore recommend no solutions, except, get a better commander next time, and defend your CC with your life.

I was in that game as you recall. For the first part before you joined I was helping a new person with the commander and he was doing alright. You came and apparently someone killed the chair (I had switched because the teams were uneven), and finally went back over because the teams were once more uneven. And even with just LMG we managed to take out there last hive a win the game. And it was not the commanders fault he lost it, it was the marines. They would not listen and as such, payed the ultimate price. But like any game of NS as of late the only real reasons the Aliens lost was because of the, dare I say it, people switching from even teams to the team that was winning. I noticed towards the end of the battle that once more. The teams were like 7 againest 4. The aliens can come back, just like the marines can come back. It just takes smart playing, and not sitting there on your duffs and sitting in one base.

Back in the last version, when the teams were 15 on 4, I considered that it was fair game to hide out if the teams were that unbalanced, and make them suffer.

i love hunting for that last alien. i was the one that found him once. he was hiding in a dark corner on a high ceiling in an infested area and was partially cloaked. i looked up and used my flashlight and saw 2 fang things and turned my flashlight off. then my mind flashbacked to the intro movie where you could see 2 fang things right before hell broke loose which were actually the skulks front claws. so i thought to myself, "no it couldn't be" i thought i was just imagining things, then i turned my flashlight on the spot again and saw something that faintly looked like a skulk. i fired like mad and the skulk burst and the game ended. and i yelled over voice com "HA! I found him! I found him"

anyway i don't think there are any places aliens can hide that a marine with a jetpack cannot get to. i suppose if there were no jetpacks and no command centre then it might be a problem but that situation is so unlikely to happen it's not worth bothering with.

Usually if i am an alien and i am the last one, i'll charge the marines if i see no way to get a hive back up.
