Normally they don't, but what are you going to do when one marine rambo pops out of nowhere and gets one, good shot at you? Nothing; you die. 30 res wasted.

Well, if the marine managed to ambush a Lerk. Good for him. He deserves the kill. Aliens should be the better ambushing team. If the aliens are not good enough to detect marines (and theyare LOUD as heck) then the aliens will die.

People seem to have this idea that higher life forms are never ever supposed to die unless the player makes a big mistake; sorry, but that can't always be the case. Lerks only cost 30 res. They're easier to kill than Fades and Onoses because they're cheap and you can afford to lose them. If you've earned the res to evolve again by the time you die, then you've broken even so to speak, and any res above that is a luxury(which you won't ever use unless you Gorge something). Lerks break even faster than higher life forms, so what's wrong with them being killed more often? If you die every time you reach 30 res, you're still going to be able to be a Lerk for 95% of the game. The only Lerks who waste their res investment are the ones who try to charge marines with Bite like a flying skulk, and die after a couple kills(if they're lucky).
