<div class="IPBDescription">dont think this is about WON, its not</div> ok, i just got this idea, call me crazy, but read this b4 posting at least.
i was thinking, NS, could become independant, no steam, it could use its own way of accessing servers, like how Scorched 3D does, and maybe UW could make there own master server or something, dont get me wrong, i like Steam, but im thinking, NS could become something more, if they leave Steam. i myself wouldent mind donating my brain (not money, because i have none Cept that roll of pennys) to this, and trying to help any way i can
dont get me wrong, i like steam, and i dont plan on trying to get NS back on WON
what do you think? comments? flames? all i dont want is this to become a mindless $%!* topic, if that happens, admins know what to do.

Charlie's already working on UWEs first retail game, so I assume NS will remain the free HL-bound mod it is today until Steam disintegrates or the last of its players get bored of it, whatever happens first <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So, you are suggesting NS leave a perfectly good distribution system and waste tons of money on its own?
Any reason why?
And as others pointed out, the majority of the Steam users don't experience alot of problems with it.
Wouldn't mind seeing a more sturdy netcode than HL's current piece of dodgyness on the other hand...

That can be considered a problem then?
Moving to their own platform would cause a loss in this momentum.
You people scare me sometimes <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Sometimes? Hell I'm quite amazed that half the people on these forums don't light their own heads on fire then run around naked pouring gasoline on themselves and throwing small rodents at random people given the average levels of common sense around here...
As for the actual idea... steam is a good platform ATM, most of the bugs worked out (except that stupid steam ticket thing). It has a HUGE audience, since CS is on this platform, and CS is the most popular online game (ugh). When NS gets listed under the My Games section, 1.3 million people will see it every month. Assuming even 1% download it and play it out of curiosity, thats 13,000 new players every month.
Best. Idea. Ever.
I can imagine Flayra calling his mansion "The Hive"
And there's about double as many that hate it over anything.

Not so much any more, most of the old steam haters are now steam tolerators.

Back up with stats plzkthx.
i was thinking, perhaps later, when NS Does get the players, Does get its momentum, they could become standalone, but i gusse, you are right, for now the right place is steam.
I was more perhaps thinking, if NS became standalone, they could possably become as nice as what we have today, i just seen red orchrista, and compared to dod, Well, you get my point.
but your right, dumb idea.
