Help!
I can't get STEAM to download, it keeps saying the file it expected is smaller then the one recieved. It looks like its 50000 bytes or something that wasn't downloaded. I used to be a big NS player a while ago (8 months or so) but now that i've come back, now I need STEAM and this new 3.0v... I tried to get 2.0v to work, but I can't seem to even get that working, it says that the version is out of date, but when I go to check for updates on HL, it says that my version is up to date... Anyone know what this is about?

I would try running a scandisk (XP pro/home will require a reboot, which will also change the steam download server)
For additional help, you should post up your system config.
Ninja Edit: http://www.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.exe Or you can poke around for one of the full installs. Fileplanet has it, be sure to go for a nap beforehand.
"Could not initialize installation. File size expected = 706552, size returned=204400"
Go figure that one out... and I even clicked on the link you posted GWAR.
Now, uh.. lets see..
Windows XP
Some... Sound card... over 16mb, or something, I think.
ATI Radeon... um... the 64mb one. Should still run halflife, it was 8 months ago.
ahh... What else is there...
Try using a different browser or disabling whatever download accelerator kind of programs you might be using.
I appreciate all the help I'm gettin'. ^_^
1.) What version of IE do you run?
2.) Is it the latest?
> If no upgrade to the latest version. Windows Update should work.
> If yes:
3.) Have you ever had a download problem like this before when using IE?
> If yes: consider downloading an alternate browser: (Either
Firefox or Opera will do)
> If no ignore the seeming stupidity of my previous questions.

The problem may not be on your end at all.
1.) Are you using the same webhost when you attempt to get the file?
> If yes, attempt to download from other providers.
> If no:
2.) What sites are you downloading from?
If it is on your end and it is not IE's fault or a third party download accelerator's fault, then it could be an internet connection problem.
1.) What kind of internet connection do you have? (56k., DSL, Cable, ISDN)
2.) What Internet Service Provider do you have? (AOL, Earthlink, Comcast, etc.)
3.) Do you have network stability issues with your ISP?
> If yes: keep this in mind as a possible reason for the problem, your connection may have cut out before the file finished downloading.
> If no: chances are it is on your end.

I may not be able to solve your problem myself, but hopefully by answering these questions you can provide more information to the people who can help you, and organize the problem in your head and perhaps even come up with the solution yourself.
It worked all fine on his laptop, but on mine it was screwed by that size expected/returned error.
