Cat Packs

activatable instead of kill activated
Make catalyst packs (cat packs) be an upgrade instead of a dropped item, have them be activated by say being in the weapon 4 slot and you pull it out and activate it. Then it gives you the boosted effects but drains health, you could then have it either be a one use item with a timer or simply be able to turn it on or off. Because well lets see, in most games I play in classic they never get uses, and in combat t hey are prettty horrible by being kill activated. This way they might actually get used!

Search is your friend. This has been suggested on numerous ocasions.

I don't believe there was any offical word on it, but then, what else is new?

I don't know if you've actually used cats in combat before, but from my experience, kill-activation works very well. It may not make sense on paper, but when you pick off one of the skulks around the feet of that onos charging you, get a cat pack, and own the hell out of the onos (that part usually takes another person), it feels o-so-good.

If cat-packs reduced reload time, that would be the bomb...

I find it makes a viable first upgrade. Everyone is skulk, they charge in groups, you kill one...

Like mines, it is very good in the start, but becomes pretty weak once the big boys come into play.

On the contrary, I think catpacks are only useful when you're carrying an HMG. At that point it's very powerful to mow down a skulk and then have plenty of ammo to turn the crosshair on the Onos or Fade. None of the other guns have enough ammo to make good use of it after a kill.

On 21 level servers catpacks are useful when hive rushing. 3/3 HA shotty picks off the healer gorge and then unloads the rest of the clip into the hive. Usually the effect lasts long enough to reload and do it again.

As it is you kill something then sit and reload until the effect wears off. It could still be dropped on you when you get a kill (in co) but you would be able to use it when its needed. Regular NS could be changed or stay the same, either would work fine.

I think a big improvement should be in NS_ play. Make them like in Starcraft: you select the group of marines, then push on catalyst, and they get catpaks all together, without you having to drop them.

    More RTS-style, i think.

You can always save it for that one onos or fade thats really annoying. Save up a point, see the enemy buy it, and bye bye annoying fade/onos.

i think the way cat packs work well by the comm dropping them, they do not play a major role in the games anyway but i see where you are coming from.

I use cat packs alot in normal NS, they are great for chaseing down running onos. Spend 10 res dropen some cats and that 100 res onos did't get away..... They also work great when a redem onos or fade comes along.
