Some Sort Of Exploit?

Ok, Well. I've had this happen to me about 4 or 5 times now. Little punk kids, telling me "Good-bye" or something similre, and then my game crashing. When I ask them, how or why they did it, they reply , "It's a secret." I know for a fact, it is them doing it. The way it happens; Something will happen where a problem arises, such as I get a cheap kill or something of the like. Then, they will get angry, and say they will crash my game. I didn't think it to be true at first, and then they acted on it, many a time. If anyone else has had this happen, and knows how to prevent these people from doing such things, please. Tell me. I appreciate any help with this issue.

This can't possibly happen on every server you join, surely you aren't **** everyone off? Stop playing on that server it's happening on if it's just one. Those people aren't worth your game time if they are crashing you because you killed them. Unless theres more you aren't telling us?

They are probably crashing the server thru some form of muppetry.
If they are bringing the server down, get IP's and get them in trouble, as it's a crime to attack a machine. Also if it's your server start banning them like it's going out of style.

I have seen instances of people crashing other people's games. I'm not aware of how they do this, but it is quite possible to do it. However, it tends to affect large groups of people, rather than individual players. Hopefully it will be fixed in Beta 5.

By crashing the game, do you mean you were viewing your desktop after they say goodbye... or you simply got kicked from the game?

If you got kicked, it's usually an abusive admin, or you did something wrong. (for instance, maybe you saved for an Onos intead of a hive, which some admins hate)

Otherwise, I don't know, maybe your copy of the game is messed up.

The client crashs to the desktop, but the server is unaffected. I suspect it could be related to an invalid model or sound, but it's obviously hard to catch. If you aren't affected by it, you'll notice that most people's pings aren't updating, then they all time out. Unlike the steamed bug (client 57), they don't exit immediately.

Let me clarify some things. When I say, "Crashing the game"; I mean the following: It causes the game to freeze up. The sound I'm hearing is repeated until I bring up the task manager and close the game through processes. I'm no stranger to the computer and the way it works. I'm not being kicked; someone is deliberately crashing my game. This has happened on two different server, by different people with different STEAM Id's. I have seen them do it to people, other then me. The game displays, The persons name who is crashing other people leaves the game, 1-2 seconds after it says he leaves the game , the game for whomever they are trying to crash, crashes. I have had someone I know, still in the game, tell me, infact that the person never left, and is still in the game after I crash. Whether it be an onos, a comm. It doesn't matter. They crash a single persons game at a time. Not the server, not normally a group (From what I have seen.). I have been talking to someone on the microphone, about how this kid has just crashed my game, and then the kid will crash his game. He comes back, and tells me, "My game just crashed, just like the kid said". Yes, it's a great way to get people to not talk to you, and listen to you. It is injust, and I would like to know how and why this is happening. I spoke to one of the people doing it, I asked him, if it was an exploit in the HL code, or a seperate program. He didn't give me a sure answer, but he mentioned that HL has a terrible code, and there are many exploits. He also mentioned all he needed were STEAM id's to crash peoples games. I'm not sure if that is true, but that is what he said. Once again, any comments or help would be appreciated.

I know this "exploit" You know the person who did it because their name will be on your screen... "soso left the game" That is the person who crashed you.

Thanks for being more discriptive! <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /> Looks like some sort of exploit. I haven't had this happen to me yet, however, it could certianly be a problem and really destroy the commmunity if it get's into the hands of too many players. It would be like the wild west where everyone had a gun in a holster.

sammdd, thanks a million, you're doing all of us a HUGE favor by bringing this to the community's attention. If this keeps happening, try to gather more information. If you think they're about to strike, try seeing what's going through the console. Stuff like that. Though it may be hard to gather any more information than you gave us, every bit helps.

Just a question, when you say that the sound you're hearing keeps getting played, is it a constant humming, or is it a replay loop (like an LMG shot going ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba instead of bang)? The former would sound like a total system hang-up, while the latter would sound like your computer hardware can't handle the game when they crashed it (like a 386 trying to play HALO online).

If somebody finds out how to do this it, PM one of the bug exterminators or one of the devs. Posting it for all to see may not be a good idea.

i dotn know what the rules are so i wont post teh accuall command but anyone can crash people by typing something in console..... and it only works in ns. i thought it was common knowledge by now.......

I've been playing on Mark's for several months now, weekly, and I have never heard of this exploit. This is the first time I have seen it mentioned, whether it be a forum or a server. Clearly, not everyone knows about it.

Ive never heard of it either, Ive heard of an exploit that could crash 5 people at once but they fixed that one. Ive never heard of a command that can make another player crash.

If EVEYONE knew about it then they all would probably be using the command in game.

Even though it may seem to be wide spread PM the dev's anyways: A. just to make shure and B. to show that its a really big problem

well since i been crashed plenty of times in pubs i asumed people knew. well alot of people know now and not everyoen runs amx mod on theyre server for that.

This crash? I could have sworn I saw that in the bugtracker a while ago, but a quick search doesn't yeild anything.

I just happen to not annoy the morons, I guess. It's never happened to me.

This plugin does work.. I use it on the BFTG servers. But now everyone in this post should now how to crash someone <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' />

It was public in the bug db for ages so I wasn't secretive about it on other forums as there seemed no point. Then they made it private... but its too late.

It is (sadly) a known issue. a person can crash you by being close to you and triggering a certain crash on themselves. There are also ways to crash entire servers at the same time. Rest assured 100% of these issues are allready fixed in the next version.
