    heya
    there are a lot of problems atm wich occured after the last steam update a few days ago. and they just seem to occur on win9x based systems.

    Run Half-Life from the Games menu.
    This causes Half-Life to update (which, for some odd reason, it does not automatically do), and once you see Mr Freeman and his trusty shotgun, you may then proceed to exit the game, and play NS as usual.

    I get EXACTLY the same CRAPPY message again and again. Sometimes HL will work, and i can play. Sometimes it just wont. Sometimes i need to reinstall Steam, then i can play. Then I stop, reboot, want to play again - it wont work. Then Reinstallign wont help and this messages comes for 2 whole days and suddenly it works. WHAT THE HELL?

    I have this problem now since over a week and its getting so hard on my ball you can't imagine. Steam is the biggest piece of as§crap I have ever seen and i am totally **** off. I can remeber the day I bought HL so I can play it online. With money. And now, after that long time they come with this retarded steam, which brought me 100 stupid downloads and dozens of errors and a non existant support.

    Hurray!

    Maybe I can play HL again when the next bloody patch comes in a view weeks. Oh wait, I guess then something new totally frustrating is gonna happen..

    rename this file to something else like ClientRegistry.blob_backup
    D:\Program Files\Steam\ClientRegistry.blob

    Exit and Logout Steam

    If it works well now, Steam will update itself

    Still no good!
    All I get is eSteamTemporarilyUnavailable and then i dies on me!
    This is getting sooooo XXXXing annoying I'm actually thinking about forgetting the whole thing and play something else which steam hasn't got their dirty grubby hands on! I can't even play any other game like CS and DoD. Even my Condition Zero has been taken from me and I paid for it dammit!
    Steam is crap and it will forever be! Why oh why did NS go on steam?

    Nope still nothing! i deleted the blob things and it 'updated' but still no games to play! still 99% acquired etc! I mean, steam knows it needs to be updated yet it just sits around with its finger up its port sockets!

    rember guys - never ever reinstall steam.. - Its fine if you dont medal with it.

    Here are some tips.

    correct you time in the system tray icons.

    delete the clienregistry.blob

    logging out and back in

    Going offline and then back online.

    Contacting #steam on either qnet or gamesurge

    qnet= quakenet

    DreamWeaver, i think the only thing to do now is wait, for the next update. It shouldn't be a problem at the rate steam are releasing updates these past days.

    well updates wouldnt matter. If you get the error
    that steam is busy or wotever and it quit auto then retry loads of times untill you get the proprer update.

    I don't think you understand, people can update after awhile if they just keep trying however, once you have updated you get another problem saying that, "This game is temporarily unavilible at this time" (spelling).

    well get the latest update right click on the game in games and then see whats happening in propeties.

    Check the date and time. you must!

    Please though makie sure the time and date are correct where you are, if they are wrong steam wont work....

    fix: first, move half-life.gcf to another location. then, start Steam, open the games window and doubleclick on Half-life. after you've done that, quit Steam and move half-life.gcf back again.

    I hope this works for you, ymmv of course.

    every time an update is released the steam servers get flooded with download requests... you just have to be patient to get in line for one...

    all the logging out and in may help, but simplist thing is just to take the night off, throw back a few beers and try again later or tomorrow <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I had this problem yesterday, it was very annoying. After multiple times of relooading, deleting clientregister.blob etc etc, i got annoyed, so i logged out, deleted clientregister.blob and then platform.gcf (From the SteamApps subdir), i loaded steam again and lo and behold, it worked. This could have been coincidence, but it didn't break Steam more.     its the steam servers NOT ur pc they got overloaded and ran out of bandwidth all u have to do is keep trying and it will <i>eventiually</i> work (i tried every 5-100mins for 4 hours)
