I have a P4 1.7Ghz machine
256MB RAM
Windows XP Pro (ripped)
600K Broadband

I will also set up the best version of NS which is 1.04. Is this enough because I work all day so if I leave the server on will it work all day with no problems? Thanks for the help.

    If you ask me, 256MB of RAM is a little lacking for a server. Windows XP itself already hogs 70-100MB of RAM.

    I changed the Windows Virtual Memory to 800MB Minimum so it should make up for it. Oh yeah I can also play Far Cry at at least 60fps on high detail with a Radeon 9600XT with this RAm so it must be running fast.

    Remember denny? I think a lot of people do and this thread is likely to start a flame war just because of the champions name.

    I dont think they've changed much and this is probably a more subtle trolling but I'm fairly certain it'll just cause trouble.

    Lets not fall for it, eh?

    On the offchance these people are genuinely interested in ns,

    You need more ram. 512mb is fine 256 is very tight. You cannot compare far cry to an ns server, they use the pc differently. Swap file is a very poor substitute for ram.

    You'll need to check your upload rates and contention with your isp but I think you're going to suffer horrible choke on that connection with anything over 8 players.

    Put the same server on a 600k leased line with 512mb ram and it would be fine for 16-20 players.

    1.04 is an old version now, if thats what you want to play then thats your choice but dont expect too much passing traffic. Most people overwrote 1.0x with 2.0. Most of them then moved to 3.0

    XP Pro is stable but dont advertise that your using illegal software, thats the same as standing in the pub telling people you stole your car. Not bright. The are ways to optimise XP Pro for server running as a server, depends how serious you are.

    Ricky, I really really hate to tell you, but your box could never host any server of reasonable size in a million years unless you added a lot more to it. If you want a server for your super-leet (chortle) clan, you'll have to do what most other clans do - get together and chip in money for the rental fees. If you are all the super leet clan the champions, I'm sure you have the unity to pay for one little server so you can show how leet you are to those undeserving bastards online.

    2 people, but one of their IPs is more dynamic than the other so I didn't mention it.

    It sucks that it doesn't show the Steam ID and IP on one line as it means when I do the following command I have to open up the log to see their Steam ID, and vice versa:
